    hey all,
just wondering if anyone has rigged up an internal camera mount in a wrx and would care to share any ideas. basically just has to hold a small digital video camera (less than 2 years old) - one chap at DCTC in February had a camera mounted someplace on the rear seat back of his RSX that seemed pretty good. If anyone has something like this I could borrow to save me the fabrication that would be supercool, otherwise just any thoughts on hardpoints and methods would be appreciated. I'd like to have this in place for the DCTC events on the 9th and 10th. TIA :p

I will look into it and see if I can make something in my welding class.

It would not be hard to do. I would just bring a bar that conects to the headrest. Do you know how I would be able to mount the camera to the bar? Do you have a pic of the camera?

This is all that I would do

What car are you going to be putting this on?

    Kedrik,

In the past I have mounted my camera in the back. I remove the seats, snap the camera on the tripod, loop a chain or rope around the top base of the tripod, tie the ends of the chain or rope at the base of the front seats and you will want to make the slack a little short where the tripod is not able to sit up straigt, because your gonna tighten it down to the back. Position the tripod with one leg on each passenger seat and the third behind it. Than get a cargo strap and hook one end to the top of the base of the tripod and the other to the back seat bolt or hole, what every is available. And start cranking the strap to a tight fit. It very secure and worked wonders for my track events, even passed tech inspection. lol

    Happy Hunting!

    C ;)

Just buy a square metal tube from the Home Depot and 4 u-bolts.
Measure it out so the u-bolts line up with the headrest bars. Then in the middle of the bar, make a mount for your camera. It will be really cheap to make too.

no bars on the seats in an '05 wrx either... I like the idea of having it in the back seat best, it doesn't have to be perfect. I'll play around with the tripod idea too. I don't have the camera in front of me at the moment, I'll be borrowing it for the weekend, but it should have a standard tripod mount. Should be able to come up with something, though if anyone has a mount sitting around collecting dust let me know :)
Speedemon - I'll let you know if I come up with a design that would work in the car, thanks for the offer to fabricate. Hopefully won't have to take you up on it but it would be kinda cool to have a mount to loan out and use that doesn't take much set up time. Thanks for the responses so far :D

A lot of rally guys use these lipstick cameras. I've seen one of these lipstick cameras mounted in a RS hood scoop.

duct tape it down behind the rear headrests. there is alittle flat self there(not sure bout 05;s, but its where my speaker are)

or you could go uber spy style and some how mount a camera mount upside down from your dome light. (this is a wicked idea) youll have to see how the dome light mounts (assuming its in the center of the car) and see if you can just screw soemthing int othe same holes as teh light uses. or devise a clip to clip it to the light.
