00 Impreza 2.2L. I removed the battery about ten days ago prior to going on vacation. I put it back in tonight. Lights work, can flip the key to the on position, everything looking good so far...try to start the car and all goes dark. Now, the odd part is, if I disconnect the neg or pos battery connection, than reconnect it I get lights and everything all over again, but car still will not engage starter, its one click than all dark again. Couldnt identify any blown fuses. Battery? I hooked it up to the charger, it says full, but is sulfated. So, I set the charger on a 24 hour "recondition". Battery? Short? Totally stumped.

Tighten your battery down after cleaning.

hmm...if its not the battery connections then my thought is its either a bad battery or you need to hit your starter with a hammer :)

yep, that's a textbook loose connection somewhere. my '86 did that when I first put things back together. there's enough continuity to run most things, but as soon as you engage the starter, it sucks the power from everything else.

start with the + side, between the battery and fuse box. then start checking grounds.
