WE HOOKED UP THE SCANNER AND IT SAID THE PO325 KNOCK SENSOR MALFUNCTION BANK. CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT AND TELL ME WHAT THAT MEANS AND EVEN HOW TO FIX IT? THANKS
The knock sensor is not functioning. It is located on the drivers side of the motor in front of the starter. Most likely it needs to be replaced.
Easy on the caps lock No, you should be fine. If the engine is running fine now, it should be fine for a week. Knock sensors aren't too bad costwise, IIRC retail is somewhere around 95.00.
bad sensor? if you are handy with a voltmeter, do you know where the sensor is? CAREFULLY disconnect the sensor's wiring harness and test the resistance. pull the specs on what the sensor should read. (i dono if diffrent sensors are used in subaru's but it is a posability.) if the signal is outside the spec'd range, replace it. here is the fun part. if the signal is good, you have to reconnect the harness CAREFULLY and pull the floor out of the passenger footwell and check the reading at the ecu. i dont know what car you have, so i cant tell you what pin to check, but it should be pretty much the same signal as what you pulled off the sensor its'elf.
if you get crappy gas and drive the car hard, a non functioning sensor will not allow the ecu to correct for det. that would be bad. but if you just take it easy untill you get it fixed it's not going to hurt anything.
