While driving out to work, my car threw a CEL. Not sure what's going on, pulled over and looked under the hood, nothing totally out of wack. Car not over heating, however, boost is pretty crazy. Boosted up to .1Mpa on a stage two 02 wrx! Ok, I guess that is only 14.5psi, but still, was never hitting that boost before. Also, vacuum while cruising on flat ground was in the 0 to -.03 range. Now, curious if this is normal for this set up at high attitude? I am about 7000 feet out here. Also, had to put 88 octane fuel into for it about 50 miles. Don't know if that could be the issue or not. As always, thanks for the help guys!
Get the codes checked- I wouldn't be surprised if the 88 octane was causing some knocking if you got into boost at all while running it.
Erm, less oxygen and low octane fuel ? That might be a bad combo for a modded turbo car that's used to being about 6,000 feet closer to the sea and running on fuel a few ticks up the octane ratings.
I stayed off boost for the duration of that time span. Or at least as much as I could. I filled up with 91 as soon as I could (I put 3.5 gallons in of 88). It ran alright for about four hours like that, then I got a CEL and boost started fluctuating as above.
I would get the codes checked, but unforntunately my AP is 1100 miles away. The closest Subaru dealership is, well, I don't know where it is, at least several hundred away.
Thanks for the info! I gotta admit, it took me a while to locate a place that would do it, but the fourth try was the charm. Cost me 20 bucks and now I know I have a misfire on Cylinder 1. According to the mechanics, doesn't think it's bad, wasn't a "recent" code, and should be alright to continue driving on. Guess I will be replacing plugs and wires when I get home...
Anybody mind explaining to me how the car initializes the check engine light? anybody know how to grab the codes? laptop cable connect? i got a check engine light like 3 hours ago, i'll be doing an oil line check in the morning, i just want to keep my subie alive...
Changing wires? You have coil packs bro. No wire changing necessary. Just do the plugs, get some normal gas in her, reset that ecu and call it a day.
