Here is my deal. I want the mount my phone in an accessible yet non annoying spot on my dash. As I've discovered there are a million phone mounts/holders in many variations. I'm just curious how you guys have mounted your phones and what hardware you purchased to do so. Pics would be cool I really want to make sure I buy the right product the first time as I hate fussing with returning shat.. Thanks
Not sure what phone you have but I bought this one a few months back off Amazon and mounted it just below the radio on the vent works absolutely perfect with my HTC EVO, best 15 bucks I have spent in a while. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ALHMDS/ref=ox_ya_os_product
Not a bad idea. Particularly given how many cars come with multi-disc units now days. I've been happy with my $30 generic mount from Target. They only have one. It's flexible enough to work with my phone or Accessport. I like that disc thing though. I might do that in addition so I can have the phone and AP mounted at the same time without looking like I have scaffolding under my windshield.
I put a panavice mount in my Legacy for my XM Receiver, which is planned to be temporary. Once i pony up and do the whole double din conversion, and integrate the XM, the panavice will be repurposed for my cell phone. it is a perfect distance from my finger, if i'm resting my hand on the gear shifter.
Check out these guys. I've used one of their phone holders in an 05 Pacifica and it worked very nicely. http://www.proclipusa.com/iphone-mounts/iphone-mounts.aspx
I'm also looking to pick one of these up. Not crazy about the Mountek CD changer/optional bottom thing. I really like the look of that proclip.
For a custom mount Bracketron makes brackets just like the panavice: http://www.bracketron.com/media/support/installation/_mvm/211.pdf They also have TONS of other mobile solutions http://www.bracketron.com/ (i used to work for this company, they're out of Edina)
I have to OEM Motorola dock stuck to the lower left of my windshield. It is a suction cup just like a GPS mount. I run the wire under my gauge cluster and get power from the lighter adapter. You can't even see the wires and it just plugs in and automatically charges when I dock it. It also recognizes the connection and pulls up the "mobile mode" on my phone. Easy access to GPS, etc. I really like it.
The combined weight of the phone/mount don't turn the horizontal vent blades you attach it to downward?
I'm trying this. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1781022915/the-best-aluminum-car-desk-phone-cradle I haven't really found anything i've liked in the past. It ships this month, we'll see.
not at all, if you look at the picture in the link, the top part clips onto your vent and the bottom part of the clip is actually a little foot that that holds the whole thing level so your vents stay straight, the whole thing is very steady never had an issue even bouncing down dirt roads, i actually hide my little febreeze air freshener vent clip kinda behind it too on the same vent. I will try to take a picture of it in my car at lunch today for you.
I see you point but I'm sure it's shielded enough where the magnetic field doesn't damage anything. it's not like ipads, hard drives, etc are magnet free. unless i'm reading it wrong i think only the hinge uses magnets. I'm not concerned as i don't expect my phone to get wiped out. who pays 500 for a smartphone anyway.
So I'm not the only one who does that? Haha This thing actually works quite well, except sometimes the jaws that ratchet tight to hold the phone slip and it loosens a little, but I got it used, so that could be why.
I didn't pay that much for my phone (I still have unlimited LTE Ben =P) I just meant the value. Regardless I'd need to see some research. How can it be strong enough to hold a phone but not strong enough to effect the internals of the phone? Is it possible? Sure but like I said I need research first. Not to mention I'm not a fan of it sitting with no sort of enclosure.
I have a pad mount that came with my Garmin that i stuck on to the dash right in front of the radio (04 WRX). It works nice, because I can use my suction cup phone holder, or the Garmin suction holder off of that. I prefer it over the window, because often times in extreme temp changes, I loose the suction, and then it drops while I'm driving. It also is at a nice height for me to glance quick, and stays out of the way for the radio controls, and also has straight access to the cigarette outlet power. If I were to do it again though,(if I read correctly) I would mount it on the side where Xluben was saying; bottom left of the windsheild.
Same setup for me... Motorola is good about supporting their devices with hardware. To bad I will never be buying one again after their latest issues (the Atrix 4G not getting ICS was the final straw).
I bought this exact one from Amazon and it works like a dream for $21. Holds the phone well, installs in less then A minute. Only downside is limited placement as it does need to mount in a vent. Overall I'm satisfied for the effort/money I've invested.
I too ordered one from amazon, and have really enjoyed it! Makes me nervous to tighten or loosen on the really cold days, but so far has been great.
