Got my wheels and tires from Tirerack yesterday and threw them on today. 18' Enkei RPF1 wrapped with Michelin X-Ice rubber. I think it looks pretty good since it was basically a blind buy. Haven't seen anyone with them on the mazda forums.

    Woot!

Although... I can't wait for summer so I can throw some summer shoes on it and see how it really handles! All in all they shaved 8lbs per corner. The stock wheels are pigs weighing at 24lbs a piece.:eek3:

Looks good Dizmal, those must have set you back a pretty penny. Do they not have center caps?

Yeah, I was thinking of waiting. But I just couldn't!! I had to throw them on to see how they would look:biggrin:

You don't like Enkei's huh? It was the lightest 18" rim I could find without paying over $2k for a set. I'm not a bling bling Ray's wheel type of guy, although if I made more money I would be!

    Thanks Carl!

Actually, only $1700 with shipping. Wheels themselves were $1100. Not too bad, consider the size and weight of the wheels. Center caps are on the way. They weren't in stock and I guess in Japan they don't come with the wheels so they have to special order them.

Why 18 inch rims for snow tires? I've read the X-Ice is supposed to be the top tire on ice and hard pack snow. Have you had other winter tires in the past? I'd be interested to hear what you think of them.

While I'm not a fan of the Enkeis at all shaving weight is a good thing even if it is a winter setup.

Wow, I want to see how light your good (future) summer wheels will be. Ditch the stockers completely, man.

Well, 18" is the stock size for one. 2nd, because I didn't want to go to a 16" and waste money on a wheel I don't really like. Plus, these are going to be my summer wheels also, so I figured what the hell...

I had Nokian RSIs last winter on my WRX. So I have a good idea of how they should perform. Although I'm on a totally different car so it may be hard to make a direct comparo

Got some more pics! I'm digging the look, now I just need to get tinted. I think 30% all around will look nice.

I'm not a big fan of the RPF1s (I think it's the overly thick rim that turns me off) but I have to admit they really suit your car. Looks nice.

I agree. Never liked those enkeis. The basketed in shape makes them look smaller than the stock wheels

Much as I hate to point it out the advantages for spending that much for lightweight makes no sense to me when they have uber heavy snow tires on them, or you're not racing it. A few lbs here or there in wheel weight on a street car isn't a big thing, usaully people who get these or koseis or ssr comps or ultraleggeras are also using them as competition wheels

some volk te37s would make that car ungodly sexy though.

also something like this really suits the car imo (ignore the time attack lip if you must)

Dude, those would not go with my car:ugh:

As I stated above. These will be my summer wheels and I didn't feel like spending $400 on the wheels I was thinking of for winter, only to buy these in in 5 months anyway. Plus I found the X-Ices for a real reasonable price considering the size and decided to pull the trigger.

The ultraleggra's were my other choice. Along with gunmetal Enkei Evo 5's, they also look nice. But every MS3 on the forums has those.

I know 18s are over kill for a winter setup, but screw it! It's not like they are a set of 18" $3k set of Ray's for winter.
