02 WRX wagon: My clock light appears to be going into intermittent on or off. Has anyone encountered this on their Subaru WRX's. I'm not sure if this is just a loose wire, or what? Stock clock. Sometimes will flicker on after short drive or small pot hole, or slap on the housing on dash. I found factory service manual online somewhere, but thought I'd check in here to see if anyone else experienced this yet.
Pull the clock unit out, and check the connector. You might need to push it together tightly and then wrap the connection in electrical tape
My 02 sedan is doing the same thing. +1 for pulling clock out and checking conn.'s and taping. That's what I plan on doing, just lazy
Mine is the same, its weird cause it keeps great time. My friend's 02 wagon doesn't work at all. As a side note, what color is the clock in an STI? Is it the same greeness?
The clocks are stupid, and if it is intermittent, that means it's on the verge of braking. They have a contact in them (behind the glass) that gets hot and bends down until it touches the LCD and shorts it out. Foresters have the same problem and i've taken a few of the wrecked clocks apart. All have the melted tab and burn mark on the glass lens. They aren't cheap either.
There is your final answer! If anyone would know about your question,he would be one for sure! Am looking to replace my crap clock w/ three gauge set-up. Anyone knew if there is a dial clock set-up to fill one of the three holes w/a nice blue l.e.d?
Use 3 gauges. Oil Pressure/Temp, Boost, and EGT! Unless you already have a boost guage. I think someone make a little digi clock to fit in one, but not sure on the color.
Isn't it true that you only need an egt if you are running pretty high hp. like 280-300. Or is it necessary and or recommended to monitor the exaust temp at 200-220hp?:dunno:Btw, the clock in the gauge housing was a joke.hehe
I would run an EGT if your a running any ECM mods. Some people do, and some don't. I just like to see where i'm at.
Thnaks for the info you all. Is there a way to prevent the malfunction of the clock? I have yet to pull it apart to check the connection, but if I do, should some sort of preventive maintanence be done? If they all do this, then salvaged part may not be of much good. However, should some of you have extra parts because of your mods, then a swap might be in order. I like the multi-guage replacement option, but I'm still running my WRX wagon in stock mode, so no real need for these extra bells/whistles. Any tricks that I should be aware of when attempting to pull the clock? I hope to get into warm garage which should help soften the plastic preventing breakage.
