*Don't turn this into a "well don't do that" thread.*

First after my new clutch install I noticed under hard shifting the clunk in the rear changed its tone, seems more sharp and quicker now... Now the noise ... well I was then afraid to launch the car, but after some peer pressure I did it last Saturday. The launch was the most half-assed attempt I have ever made since I was pretty scared. It went flawless until I got out of the throttle and depressed the clutch. Then a sound I had never heard happened, all I can compare it to is an anti-lag type noise (you know the one, its the two or more pops after they get out of the throttle) coming from the trans/engine area.

My guess as to what it was is the trans flopping around under the car. Can a trans move enough to anything under there?

Also to those with the "Klunk Killer" how effective is that? I'm going to be getting a set, but am unsure which model.

    DON'T DO THAT!

    :)

No, let me drive your car and show you how a proper shift is made, then we can see if it still makes noise.

And you may have killed some mounts. That's my guess if you're hearing noise from the trans area.

It was two sharp popping noises, trust me I know how to shift. I have a nack for beating the the **** out of everything I have driven ... everything ;)

or they werent tightened down properly...

    1.. get an ass-istant...
    2. open hood
3... tell assistant to watch the engine pitching back and forth.. see if it moves a lot.. v(when you engage the car as if to drive it.. ie let off the clutch)

could be an engine mount.. if so it may be lifting up on one side...

there I offered something to this site.. now back to my regular scheduled ass-hattery...

I think your car hates you and is giving you Rick James' "Charlie Murphy, what did the hand say to the face?" treatment.

My tranny was flopping badly enough to be clunking pretty good every time I shifted. At first, I thought it was the rear end, but it ended up being the tranny - installing a group-n mount eliminated it.

    lol. :)

Well, it's easy enough (if you can get in a heated garage) to check out your mount. And it definitely could be that.

check to make sure all parts are tightend. It shouldn't make a sound even with the stock tranny mount. My HUGE 6spd hits my chassis compared to my 5spd. It'll hit is 2-3 times on a hard launch. Your GD chassis is MUCH bigger and should have a problem.

double check all the bolts and mount points... also, make sure you didn't do something stupid like break an endlink or something (just tossing another clunk out there)

Well today I got on it hard on the on ramp and, it sounded like glass cracking when the clutch was engaged in between 1 and 2 ... I'm used to the rear end cluck like I said every 5MT I've been in has done it under hard load. But this clutch makes all new sounds :dunno:

So I assume you already checked all the mounting bolts and the transmission is at least secure?

If not you better not push it until you do...

Who installed the clutch? and this started happening after the installation?

Driftin240 put it in, I trust him to not leave anything loose. And yes it happened after the clutch, but then again the through a completely different clutch in the mix things are gonna change.

well.. it will probably have to be friday or saturday evenings...

the electrician said he will come early next week... which means mon-thursday ah ha ah

and if you have a tank bring it... I have 2 fresh ones.. but one isnt mine I refilled it for the buddy who lent me the heaters to use... so we can run your tank and 1 of mine.. it wont make it above 45ish int eh workshop but it is more bearable then the 25-30 it currently is.. and I can then play with your ............. storm ;)
