can anyone give me a write up or a direction or anything on how to replace the clutch. any info will help. thanks
One tip to save you a lot of anger and tired arms. Get the splined section of an input shaft off a blown gearbox. Use it to align the clutch instead of the stupid worthless plastic tool. The metal one is only .30mm larger on the pilot bearing shaft then the plastic tool but it makes all the difference between getting it in first time and swearing and lifting the box 4 times.
Also. When I helped my buddy do mine, there is a damn pin you need to remove when you drop the tranny that I didnt know about.
This is only true if you have a pull style clutch (Turbo legacy, 02-05 WRX, and STI's). You have to remove the plug on the drivers side just below the clutch fork. Then you have to thread in a bolt, M4 i believe, and pull out the fork pivot. Then lift the fork off the throwout bearing. looks like this: http://oksubaru.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=4256 Plug seen here: http://oksubaru.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=4262
Yeah those pull style TOB's are funky, you can put all the axial force on them you want and they hold. But just a small nudge from the side with the screwdriver and its out of the pressure plate like butter. I was luck enough to have read about it before i tried to do mine, but ive heard of people ruining their pressure plate trying to remove it. Also it should be mentioned when putting it back together... install the clutch fork and TOB into the gearbox. If you put the TOB on the PP first, try to stab it with the fork and miss it will turn and you will prolly have to pull the box to get it lined up again.
