I was wondering if you guys had a picture of a crank pulley on an RS? My ac belt got schredded up yesterday and when I went to look at it, it looked like my crank pulley was pulled in towards the block? Can this really happen? I'm not sure what to do now. If anyone is close by and available I was wondering if they maybe can take a look at it also. Thanks guys
Yep, that looks like what happened exect mine looks a lot worse than that. How did you fix it and what was wrong with it? Also is it hard to fix?
Part was $179 from Subaru. 22 MM to get it off. You might need someone to step on the brakes. 90ft/lb to reinstall.
I would make sure your tensioner pulley bearing isn't shot. It happens all the time and is fairly cheap with MNSOC discount. If it gets into your timing cover like that i would suggest pulling the cover and verifying it didn't get into the timing belt. mars_volta: What was wrong with the crank pulley where you decided it was what needed replacing? It looks fine in the picture.
Haha oh yes... that would do it... Just a note on torque spec for the bolt. My alldata shows the following 05 LGT - 132 lb/ft 02 WRX - 94 lb/ft 03/04 WRX - Stage 1 33 lb/ft, Stage 2 94 lb/ft, Stage 3 +45* 05 WRX - 94 lb/ft 98-01 Impreza RS - 132 lb/ft I'm not sure why there is so much diversity on relatively the same part and why only some have a torque to angle but... Hope it helps
Threshld1 you have a pm. Any recommendations of taking it off with just hand tools? Do I need a special tool?
If its a 5mt put it in gear and have someone stand on the brakes. Then use as big of a breaker bar (a cheater pipe extension will help) as you can get with a 22mm. Same brake procedure when torquing it. Use a torque wrench and the spec i posted above. If it is an auto you will need to get your hands on the pulley tool. I know a few people here have made them and might be willing to loan it out. Let me know if you have any issues with my old pulley or need any help doing it. Good luck!
thanks for the pulley. I will attempt it again tomorrow. It is a manual and I tried the brake thing already. All it did was spin on me, so I'm going to try to get my hands on a pulley tool this weekend. Thanks again and enjoy your beer. My wife actually loves that four firkins place.
Spin the tires or the crank? Haha really? I spend entirely too much money there, Alvey is a great guy and the selection is wonderful. If you haven't been you should check it out.
