I've got a 97 Legacy GT that is having cruise control issues, that issue being it doesn't work. The light on the switch works but nothing else does. I checked the fuse and its ok and I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or some advice on where to go next. I'm new to Subies and am asking for help from the Suby gods. I hate chasing electrical demons around I put a lot of miles on and cruise would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance
Is it a Manual transmission? If so- check the limit sensing switch on the clutch at the top of it's travel. There is a little pad that it's supposed to hit, but if the pad falls off the pedal there is nothing to actuate the switch, and cruise won't work. I used electrical tape and a penny to fix mine.
Have you changed or modified your steering wheel in any way? have you check the cruise servo to make sure everything is properly connected? there aren't many parts to a cruise system that you interact with much, so you might be looking for a part failure. If you changed your steering wheel I'd check your clock spring. This diagram is basic, but these are the components of your system, check each one for easily recognizable problems (aka you cruise brain is melted etc) if nothing turns up, look to the wiring. My thoughts anyway
if your actuator is burned out i have one off of a 99 2.5 rs that i would sell you cheap pending it works im not sure if it does for a legacy.
on the 02 wrx I know there was a recall on the cruise control. I just got mine replaced a couple of weeks ago.
Speedyham is the man! It was that switch on the clutch. I used your penny idea, but i used red duct tape instead. I felt it gave the whole thing a racier look. Thanks a million for all the help guys, for once it was the simplest solution. I never would have known to look for that or that it was even there, so thanks again. Me and my right knee are very greatful! :nana: Once again, the brain trust that is mnsubaru comes through! Thanks again speedyham!!!!
do you want a new switch, I yanked mine a while back, I'm sure it's just sitting in my box o'wiresandparts? free plus the $1.50 shipping.
Thanks for the offer, but this one works fine. I'm kind of a fan of having my car's electrical system rendered functional by a penny and duct tape. MacGuyver was my favorite show growing up, what can i say! Thanks a million method, but I'll pass. Thanks again for all you guys' help!
