So I just got my new Hybrid build up and running Sunday night. Everything's going well for the most part! My only problem so far is I have a misfire on cylinder 1. I tried changing out the plugs to see if it changed, but it still misfires. I haven't tried swapping the coil, had to do some errand running earlier so I had to throw it together quick again. Just wondering if there are any common/easy to forget symptoms that cause a misfire? I did a quick search and I read one guy actually had his timed wrong.. I'm hoping it's not that.. But wouldn't both cylinders of that bank be misfiring??
I have not... I suppose I should have put up the build specs: Short block: Ej257 Bought from Matt, (Bikerboy) on the forum here last september. EJ257 case that has been inspected, cleaned in the hot tank and a fresh hone to all cylinders. The original motor had a bearing failure. I have a crank and rod set that was removed from another motor when a customer upgraded to better parts. The rods and crank have been inspected and hot tanked. New unused OEM pistons, pins and rings will be used ACL main and rod bearings will be used New gaskets and seals as well The heads have been to Fuji to have the combustion chambers matched to the 2.5 bore no porting though. Every thing else is reused from my stock 2.0 intake, turbo, exhaust. ect. The new motor has 100 miles on it now.. I really hope it doesn't have low compression... If that cylinder ends up needing to be built, this ****ing car is going to be burnt down to the ground and I'll take the insurance check in the mail.
Things to do: Swap coil packs Swap injectors Compression test Leak down rest What happened to the original motor? What parts were reused from it? How many miles on the cylinder heads? Were the valve clearances checked when you re assembled the motor? Were the heads cleaned?
I spun a rod bearing last year going around the road course at BIR for the Powercruise event. Pretty much every part was re-used from the old motor other then the short block. heads, intake, water pump, oil pump, turbo, ect. The heads have 160k miles on them now. When I dropped the heads off with Fuji, they were hot tanked, new valve guides, seals, and the combustion chamber work. Came back looking like brand new! (Thanks Fuji!) All the parts that were reused, were taken apart and ran through the parts washer, cleaned with carb cleaner and then through the parts washer again for a second time for a hand cleaning and then a final carb cleaner spray to make sure any and all shavings were cleaned out and the part was good to go. I'm going to go out and see if I'm missing any vacum lines or something else that's super easy and I just plain missed right now.
I had a misfire issue in cylinder 1 as well. I swapped the coil from 1 over to 2 and sure as **** got a misfire on 2. Replaced the coil and have been running good since.
I'm going to swap the coils tomorrow. Hopefully my 1 and a half year old will let that happen before I go to work.
So you've been driving around with a misfire for almost a couple hundred miles? I hope that cylinder isnt washed down and scorn like crazy. That fuel has to go somewhere, its likely in your oil.
If you have a bad coilpack, lmk. I have a few that are in good shape that i'm looking to get rid of. Good luck!
It has 102 miles on it. I had to drive it I didn't have any other mode of transportation. It's not getting driven now. I'm actually kid free and will be able to dig into it more tomorrow morning before work.
