Checked my oil this morning and it was way darker than i expected. I am having it changed on Wednesday.... (GRRRR why can't I just do it myself and keep the warranty:mad::mad::mad:) ... anyways. I was really surprised to see how dark the oil was after such a short period of time. I had the in-laws in for the past week and a half so I have been bad and didn't check my fluid levels last week. Did some driving to and from the cabin (put some good miles on the car) and was just shocked when I opened up the hood this morning. is this anything to be concerned about?

1st oil change was right around 1k
only have about 2500 miles on the AMSoil
only have about 3400 miles on the car
    09 WRX
I have had the car just about 1 month

When you run oil through a hot, turbocharged motor over a period of time it turns darker. You haven't given us anything to compare it to as far as how "dark" it is. It's got almost 3k miles on it, I'm sure the oil is going to turn darker. It's normal, stop worrying about it. If your motor was going to let go, it'd be shiny oil, not dark.

Yes, what Mr. Shorten said! You shouldn't worry too much about it yet. The motor is still pretty new. Its probably still has some engine assembly lube in it. The EAL will not wash out after just one oil change it could be several oil changes. But on the other hand I just use regular conventional engine oil 10-40.

Also, you can keep your warranty and do your oil changes on your own. You just have to keep the reciepts to show that you've been maintaining the car, and it'd be a good idea to record mileage when you're doing it and keep it all together.

Where are you getting the oil from? You should be able to get a reciept of some kind. You can also save your invoices from getting the filters, and if you're getting them at Tonka they'll be in the system under your customer history.

The thing you have to remember is that you have only changed the oil once so far. So really the amsoil detergent package is still removing the stuff that amsoil thinks it needs to remove. Amsoil makes a motor flush which will help clean out the "bad stuff", but on a new motor and with this only being the first oil change, I wouldn't worry about it. I would change the oil, and watch the next change to see how dark it gets. And if you are really that worried about it, you can always send in a sample for testing.

getting my oil from a friend. can't get a reciept.

i asked if they would take the empty bottles, used filters... i would even bring in the dirty oil. because i don't have a reciept i cannot "show proof" that i changed my own oil. i want to work on my own car! :emo:

So i am going to bite the bullet  and take my car in for my free oil changes.... and bring my own oil.

thanks! I was thinking about that. you had posted something a week or so ago about changing the oil and the different detergents used in different types of oil. i was thinking maybe it had to do with the switch from factory oil to AMSoil.

Also when you change the oil... There's still old oil in the engine, that will mix with the new oil and discolor it. You cannot remove all of the oil during an oil change.
