I'll start this off with saying, I feel like a complete moron... I installed a deck I picked up for free last night, and am having issues mounting it The mounting plates from the stock deck don't fit over the new deck (and din pocket)...and also, the new deck seems to be a little wide for the opening of where the stereo goes. What the hell is going on here? Do I have to somehow get that metal sleeve off of the deck...if that makes any sense? Here's a few generic pics to show what I'm trying to say... This isn't the exact deck, but close. It's the plastic trim piece going around the entire deck that is make it too wide. Here you can see the metal "sleeve" I'm talking about. Does that need to come off somehow in order for it to fit right?
yeah...you're right that sleeve isin't needed for most subaru applications on the sides of the sleeve, you can see where it clips into the deck, just pull those out and slide it off
Yes!! Take off the sleeve and there will be screw holes in the side of the the deck that you should be able to use. There are usually some smaller screws that come with the deck for install. Use the stock (car) mounting cage and screw that into the deck and you are set!!! Any more ?'s feel free to PM me
Thanks! I was getting so pissed with myself last night, and couldn't stand driving to work this morning with my shotty install!
I installed mine w/o the trim pc around the faceplate. Fits perfect w/o it. I had to get a Factory Bracket from the Dealer to mount Aftermarket Radios though.
As soon as I got home from work, I grabbed a screw driver and went to town on the radio. Fits like a glove now I'm planning on routing an aux cord down into the little compartment that the cig lighter is in. That way, I can close it up whenever I want to hide the cord. Anyone else do this?
I actually brought my aux in cord all the way through my console and up through the bottom of my armrest so an ipod or my cell phone can just sit in there too.
I thought of that, but it just seems a bit far back for comfort. I'll put up some pictures tonight after I finish routing that. I think it'll work out well. Also, has anyone put in a forester din pocket instead of the impreza one? It has one of those flip down faceplates that I thought would be kinda cool. Found a picture...something like this...
I have about 3 feet of aux cable that can come out of the armrest so that anyone in the car can be in control. The forester din pocket is very common to use. Looking forward to see what you've got.
I bought a 6ft cable, so I'll have plenty extra. I'll probably end up zip tying some of it up behind the dash so all the cable can fit in the little storage thing. I'm not really worried about everyone in the car being able to use it...just me and the passenger. I rarely have people in the back seat anyway.
Are you talking about a center console extended armrest? Or in the door? Door would be impressive. I hardwired my ipod nano (the new one... 3rd gen?) and mounted it where the aux-input/ashtray used to be. Perfect fit and pre-cut hole for the cord. I've installed a few of these. You need to drill new holes into the factory bracket. I'd suggest test fitting it a few times as it can look really bad if mounted crooked. Color is slightly off too (a shade or two lighter) but overall I found it to be really useful.
Meh...it's one of those things that would be kinda cool to do, but not high on the priority list. Plus I didn't know about the color difference Oh, and by armrest, I'm assuming he means the storage thing in the center console, the name of it escaped me.
It wouldn't be bad... under the steering column, through the door jamb, and up through the handle. I remember doing that with a friend for a wired remote mounted in a door panel pocket back in the day... way back in the day... yeah, you're right, that was pretty dumb  but so were wired remotes.
that is identical to my setup. I built some custom brackets to hold the Forrester DIN and I have ipod in the pocket. Looks awesome and works great.
Well, here's the final product Overall I'm happy, but I'm gonna look for a grommet for the hole I drilled.
Though the 02 WRX interior is different, I dremmeled the hole in the back of the DIN pocket. Then I stuck some velcro on the piece of molding above the stereo. Slapped some velcro on my ipod/iphone/psp cases and stick em up there. I also placed the stereo in the bottom slot, so that having a drink in the upper cup holder (but you don't have that), or said gadgets stuck in place, didn't interfere with stereo operations. It's pretty slick really. If needed, I have about 5 feet of slack behind the stereo (I hate visible wires in my car). Yours looks good.
