I found the article funny, when I started reading the "response" comments at the bottom. There was one guy who said alcohol was okay, and pot was immoral...wtf? This guy also said that our "founding fathers (the greatest men other than Jesus)," did not smoke it or grow it. When clearly the facts are there, that they did at least grow marijuana for hemp. Some people are so diluted...probably from too much booze. :)

to me pot is safer than booze. You can drive somewhat more normal than with booze you don't ever get angry with pot, you just eat...laugh and enjoy everything even if it's not funny. what do you do with booze..you puke, you can die, you can cause a crap load of accidents, you can get severely addicted to it and ruin the life of people around you.

The ONLY thing I'll add is this....

Obviously there are many points to the debate I don't have the time or the interest to touch on, but let me talk about one.

The public cries that smoking the ganja is a stepping stone for harsher illegal drugs...heroin, crack, etc etc...

So, why not make the ganja legal? If soooo many people smoke and you feel it's a stepping stone for other drugs...then make it legal! Heck, it's been proven many times that alcohol is just as bad if not worse than pot.

and btw- I'd rather meet a stoned driver on the road than a drunk driver any day!

Personally, I'm of the opinion that if you're impaired you shouldn't be operating a vehicle. I don't care if you're high, low, drunk, buzzed, etc. If you're at anything less than full mental capacity, I don't want you on the streets. I have enough job security as it is.

Agreed. But high on the road, in my opinion, is the lesser of the two "evils."

The amount of money that could be made by a tax on MJ is ... amazing. More people smoke that than cigarettes (it's true, but most people won't admit they do it because of being labled a "drug user" or losing their jobs.)

I think that legalizing it would free up a lot of space in prisons for the harder drug crimes. I think that drugs like coke, heroin, etc are a lot worse. As for that "gateway" thing, it's complete BS. Sure, most heavy drug users DO start out with pot, but they moved on because that wasn't enough for them. That isn't the pot's problem, it's a matter of self-control. Personally, I think that buying it on the street is way too damn expensive, and then you get fined and all sorts of other stupid stuff if you get caught going home after making a purchase.

MN has a lot of laws that decriminalize pot, I think you can have a certain amount in your car (as long as it's in the trunk and not enough to be "intent to sell - so like a J or something) and it will be confiscated on 1st offense. There is a legion of police officers out there that have started a group pushing for the legalization of pot, because they do not feel it's that big of a problem ... when they could be busting drunk drivers. I donno, it seems like a good idea, there is a lot of money to be made by taxing it and regulating it like alcohol. I see no reason for it to be illegal, other than kids maybe getting their hands on it.

Once you've had to cut someone out of a car, you stop caring about whether it's a lesser or greater evil. The end result is what matters to me.

I'm just speaking in generalities. No reason to go to the extremes. No one should be driving impaired. Period.

So, what I'm saying is that since it happens, I would rather be driving next to a stoner than a drunk.

Edit* - "...and if you get into a car accident while high, you're only going 4 miles an hour!"

I'm not taking it to extremes, I'm speaking from experience. To me, getting stoned and sitting on the couch watching movies and eating a couple metric tons of snacks is harmless. I've never done it, but I'm not going to look down my nose at those who do. People have the right to make choices, it's just something that's never appealed to me. Besides, I've done enough stupid **** sober ;) However, putting yourself in an altered mental state and going out for a drive is tempting fate for both the impaired driver and those around him, so we both agree. And yes, given the choice I'd rather deal with the stoned driver because they'll probably be doing about 10mph on the shoulder rather than 100mph in the oncoming lane of traffic. If they were to legalize it, I'd want to see legislation that would put driving and smoking up there with drinking and driving.

    Agreed.

Stoned Driver - "...I think I hit something..?"
Passenger - "You forgot to open the garage door, dude."

Result - Garage door needs to be fixed. BOOM, a job has been created! :)

Exactly, It's just my my opinion based on what I was taught and observations of one relative who used it for "back pain". Beyond that it's not really an issue I spend much time thinking about so I don't have any great arguments to support my position.

then you have to stop and think..who should have been driving in that instance...the people who didn't bother to pay attention to the road...or do routine maintenance checks? or the people under weed?

How about all of the above?

I'm just saying, the way the roads are right now, throwing a bunch of people on there doing 20 or more under the limit is going to cause wrecks.

I hate reading the comments on news websites, the blatant ignorance found on those sites make me wanna puke. Anyway MJ will probably never be legalized and honestly I don't think it should be legalized, it'd be heavily taxed with outrageous prices.

I will admit I have smoked "pot" and will smoke it again, I find it much more harmless than drinking. Lets face it when ever I get together with someone and smoke all I can think about is eating pizza and playing video games.

Banning of smoking LEGAL CIGARETTES is the new fad sweeping the nation by storm... and people really think dope has even the slightest chance of being a legal substance? Look at how much they tax it as well! It truly is a no win - no win situation.

It's called a pipe dream because you have to be hitting the pipe for it to even seem plausible.

Nothing you can do about that. I nearly get blasted sideways off the road by the wake of some trucks.

That being said, as with any group on the road (cycles, truckers, etc.) there are ****s, and there are nice folks.

To me it doesn't sound like he did anything wrong, outside of running over a rock on the road, and you happening to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Just be glad it was a rock through the side window, rather than a tire through the windshield. ;)

this is true..but i still would push for separate highways..to clear up the roads a little bit..and give them space as well because i see idiots cut them off...and man iv'e seen some nasty accidents from a semi not being able to stop properly BECAUSE the idiots cut them off in rush hour...im just saying it would be safer

Seperate highways are not going to happen. We're having enough trouble maintaining the ones we have already without trying to duplicate the interstate highway system. Think of the morons cutting the semis off as Darwin at work.
