    Hey kids,

I'm getting ready to go hunting this weekend and thought I would see who else is going out? The orangies go out on the deck tonigth to begin the scent elimination process. I've got a new pair of boots that the UPS guy is bringing me today which I'm excited to see.

I shoot a Remmington 870 express shotgun and this year I bought the rifled barrell and scope from Cabella's - along with some Winchester Supreme Elite 3" sabot shells. Those things make a BIG BANG - shooting at 2100 fps. After shooting it 10 times, the scope messed up, so they are sending me a new one which I am going to have to go site in on Wednesday and pray that it doesn't have the same problem.

We're leaving on Friday at noon and heading up toward Paynesville. I'm hunting with my buddy's family who's land I have hunted for the past three years - second weekend only. THIS year, they let me build my own stand in an AWESOME spot and invited me to come as part of the family. I'm PUMPED!!!

    Who else is going?!

:wavey: Me too. Heading out this Friday. The Orange was out since yesterday. I gotta pick up some boots tonite. Heading out to Nemadji. I'm shooting a FAL .308. We scouted up there two weekends ago and there are some really good signs. But we'll see this weekend.

I'm hunting in Wisconsin again on my parent's farm. Last year took me about 10 mins after getting in the tree stand to shoot an 8 pointer. Hopefully I have similar luck this year. Out of state license is $160.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to sitting out in the tree again this year - complete silence is great.

Maybe we'll get some tracking snow too!

I'm headed up this weekend, unfortinately I have to work late night on friday so I'm driving up after I get done with work. I'm headed near Aitkin. I hunt on state land and carry me tree stand in and set up before light. I cant wait. I just got my liscence and now I'm going through all my gear to make sure I gots all I needs. I hunt with a SIAGA .308, otherwise known as a AK-47, sportster model. Its a great gun to crash through the brush with, and packs a punch just where you need it.

    ++++!!!!!!!!1 this.

The first buck I shot he came running from my right to left CRUNCH CRUNCH!! I turned my shoulders and stopped as quick as I could. He didn't see me and didn't slow down so I yelled "HEY!!!" He stopped. As I yelled I pointed my boom-stick at him so if he looked in my direction I'd be ready to shoot. Quick distance measure. BAM! He fell over, kicked twice and that was it. The slug caught a branch 20 yards before him and climbed. Hit him right in the spine.

This! All the time. I know the difference between the two sounds but for some reason even when you know it's a squirrel the heart starts pumping just in case.

Heading down to Afton with my Benelli M1 Super 90 12 ga. Went to the range today to get dialed in. 32 shots with a 12 ga slug load=sore shoulder.

Good luck and be safe everyone.

How bulky is it when you're sitting in your stand? I'm trying to decide on what kind of rifle to get.. Between a ptr91, DSA, and an AR in .308 (probably dpms). The DSA isn't looking likely because of the premium you have to payto get one now, and the PTR has been increasing drastically in price. I also love the m4 style AR's for their ergonomics and how light they are.. I just want a quality semiauto .308 for plinking/deer hunting.. We'll see what I decide.. I also like the AR for its ease of putting on optics.. Claw mounts on PTR's look like ass.

My shoulder bruise started today from sighting in. 11 shots and it felt like I was going to need surgery. My scope ended up breaking and Cabellas should have a new one in my hands tomorrow, so I go back to the range to sight in... Lucky for my shoulder, for this time I borrowed a sled - FTW!

    The forcast looks pretty sweet!

Take pics of your deer and put them up when you get home, and like Mark said, BE SAFE everyone!

^^This, you get all intense, breathing gets shallow, tunnel vison, and its a squirrel. Makes you want to blast a couple at the squirrel just to realease some tension. LOL

It's even better when you think, "God that's got to be that squirrel again..." so you don't bother to look around, then you just see a flash of a white tail bolting out of there - major disappointment.

Yeah that happend to me two years ago, I hear a 'squirrel' behind me and I tell myself its just a squirrel, dont look. And then I hear the snort. Nearly made me jump out of the stand, I turn just to see two white tails bounding away. Luckily they cam back through and I shot one of them, nice fork pointer.

Its not that bulky in the deer stand. Its how far you got to walk. That thing is not light like or ordinary deer rifle. I dont know how much it weighs but it is more than my portable deer stand. I've hunted with it for the last 6 years. Its a good rifle, worth the money.

We had the best year that we ever have.
    Seven guys, six bucks.
    Points: 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10
10 pointer: Was shot just as the sun was rising Saturday AM.
3 pointer: I shot about an hour afte sun up on Saturday AM.
5 pointer: Was shot by two of my buddies, but they shot so many times at it I don't know when it went down.
6 pointer: We shot at about 10am Saturday as we were walking in for lunch.
4 pointer: We shot durring a push after lunch.
9 pointer: Was shot at about 7am on Sunday. He WAS a 10 pointer but one tine was broken off a while ago.

And this is pretty cool. I was looking for an exit hole before I field dressed my cute little spike and couldn't find a hole, but there was a bump. I felt it with my hand and something was under the skin that felt like my sabot slug. I cut it out, and sure enough, there it was! He was at 110 yards and hit him in the right shoulder, blew out his aorta and the slug went through the left shoulder and stopped right before it popped out. I think it's a pretty cool souviner.

I will post more when my buddies E-mail them to me. They were pretty nice!!! The strange thing was that I only saw 2 doe ALL weekend. Normally on this land, the doe are ALL over the place and the bucks are few and far between. We had a doe tag that we didn't fill - because the 9 pointer came along first. The PLAN this morning was to take a doe since we already had so many bucks.

I didn't see squat. Plus it was too windy to hear damn near anything where I was. So no worries of squirrels or mice.

A kid with us got a nice 6 pointer at 6:45 Sat morning. He was hunting in my other stand about 100 yards from me and I didn't know it. He shot and I about pooped myself.

My dad missed one and our other guy didn't get a shot at the one he seen.

    Success!

We got an 8 pointer yesterday morning. I say we because I shot him first, slowed him down and my dad made the kill shot where the buck bedded down. We tracked him a little too soon and he was still frisky when we found him. However one neck shot ended the proceedings.

The antlers aren't big but it was a big bodied deer. It sure was pretty in the woods in Afton yesterday morning.

The buck came into me right at the opening of shooting and I didn't know it was a buck until we tracked it.

The hunting resumes on Saturday to get another for my dad.

Took another 8 point today. 5 minutes into legal shooting, this young buck walked right under me. I had to let him walk away some before I moved since he was so close at first. He was on the ground before the echo of the shot ended. I was out of the woods having breakfast at 7:45 am. That's how hunting is supposed to go.
