Heater Hotter™ Product Description Heater Hotter™ formulated specifically to accelerate the transfer of heat from engine to cooling system in frigid climates that otherwise increase engine wear. Heater Hotter's™ unique formula allows your vehicle's heater to warm up 50% faster in even sub-zero temperatures and is safe to mix with all types of anti-freeze. Just simply add to your radiator. =========================================== I think this product is pretty new in the market. I want to try it out, but I was wondering if there are any negative side effects of using it in our MN climate. What does everyone think of this? Update on post# 20.
mmmmmmm kay. It says its made for cold weather. But I wonder, how does some wonder liquid increase the thermal conductivity of water/etheyne glycol by 50% :squint: ??!!?!?! Sounds a little sketchy to me...
there they go with the statistics again.... besides, if it transfers energy that much faster, would that much more heat get dissapated via the radiator? therefore making it take longer to heat up? or does it make it less effective, so the engine heats up faster...
So the real question is what are you trying to do?? You don't want things to heat up to fast otherwise things will crack. So then the next thing is that you are not getting any heat, and that means you have some other problems. with turbo'd motor, you should get some good heat out of it fairly quickly. then if this magic potion does somehow keep the heat, what happens in the summer when you are trying to removed heat from the system? i call BS. Just looks like a way to scam money out of people who don't know any better. Russ
that sounds like water wetter to me, they're just selling it claiming a different bennifit. Water wetter is a surfactant (SP) that breaks the surface tension allowing greater water contact, and thereby greater heat transfer. A logical reslt of this might be warmer discharge temps form your heating system even with lower coolant temperatures that are a result of the wetter. One might also surmise that the lower coolant temperature would be reached more quickly than the higher un-wetted temp. I use a wetting product from Redline that reduced my temp, not sure by how much due to the stock gauge, but it did have an effect.
Hey Fong... I can piss in your radiator next saturday for $2 if ya want... it wont do anything but I wont claim it will and charge you much either...
I'm sure that's all it really is. It'll help the overall efficiency of your cooling system meaning it'll keep it cooler as the coolant will absorb heat better thus giving you heat quicker in the winter. I have some generic stuff in my car and it works. It's better for keeping temps down in the summer vs quicker heat in the winter. I get heat about 2 min faster.
^^what may that be? What does everyone think about cutting a circle in a sheet of cardboard and sticking it in front of the radiator? I hear this reduces the radiator's contact with super icy winds in the winter thus allowing the engine to warm up faster. Good idea for cold starts and daily driving?
Remember, you don't want things to heat up to fast. With the plastic/aluminum radiator, the end tanks will expand faster than the rediator. That will lead to leaks. Again, what are you trying to do?? If you need heat a couple of minutes faster, let it warm up a bit before you drive it. Russ
I commute a much shorter distance than I used to so about 40% of my driving is on a cold engine. That's not very healthy for a motor because, as far as I know, a cold engine creates more deposits, increases wear & tear, and burns less clean than the same engine with normal operating temps. Don't you all agree?
drive slowly firs t3-5 mins and you will be ok.. NO BOOST... it is better for your engine to warm up while under a little load then while sitting idling for 20mins...
i just give her about a min after startup to get the oil flowing... long enough for me to get my phone plugged in, get the seat belt fastened, adjust my coat... etc... once i start rolling, i just try and keep it under 3k until the engine reaches OT.
That's exactly what I do and what everyone else should do if they want a healthy engine. I guess there's no winning the winter chill. DEI didn't reply to my email either. I was polite in the email and I put myself in the middle (I made MNSubaru the bad guys who refused to be convinced) hoping they'd help out a local MN guy who was interested in their product. Maybe mentioning how it compared to Redline's Water Wetter got them thinking twice. Who knows.
I have a block heater, and a piece of cardboard in front of the half of my radiator without a fan. and even then, it rarely gets warm enough to trip the thermo switch for the fan.
The water wetter definatley makes much more sense. I may have to try this stuff once my car is running. I'm shure I'll need help in the cooling department, even with the turbo radiator.
Same here. No boost until I see my oil pressure drop at idle. If it's still around 100 at a stop sign I lay off the boost. I'm going to get an automatic starter as I don't feel my block heater does a whole lot. Maybe it's broken.
Update! I just read a response from DEI about the Heater Hotter product. This is what I got in the mail (with a special offer for the club!). Fong, I was copied on a response you received from David in regards to Heater Hotter. I’m a little disappointed to see that you did not relay that information onto your post. Redlines Water Wetter has definitely become a mainstream product in this particular market but after some testing we realized that it could be better. All of the DEI Thermal Chemicals including Heater Hotter utilize a similar formula which does not break down nearly as quick as the Redline products. Also, the next time you see a bottle of Water Wetter shake it up and see how long it takes for the foam to completely dissolve…I can tell you it takes quite some time and that transfers into the cooling system creating air bubbles in the lines which hinder thermal heat transfer. With that in mind our chemicals are blended with a non-corrosive anti-foaming agent that eliminates any foam and bubbles completely. By eliminating the increases surface area in a liquids volume you increase the overall flow and lubricity of any liquids molecules. That is just another enhancement in addition to the formula’s resistance against thermal breakdown which we think gives our products a competitive edge over the reigning competition. DEI would even be as inclined to offer the forum Heater Hotter for $12.97 (includes shipping). Feel free to relay the message. i don't just do that in the garage man... that's my startup method regardless. the car does get parked out side sometimes
