Not sure if it is coincidence but since the temps have turned south my VF39 is making a racket (even after running for hours) that is similar to but louder than the racket my TD04 made. I understood the mechanical noise, which is most prevalent under part throttle, to be wastegate flutter.

I've noticed no other issues in terms of performance.

Can this be addressed by tightening something or is this just a wonderful new noise I should get used to? Symphonic rublez.

Does it sound like a helicopter under your hood? If it's actually WG flutter, which is sounds like it is, it's a perfectly normal mechanical sound. Get used to it.

The wastegate on the vf39 is not adjustable like on the td04... so yeah, if it is flutter, you're gonna have to live with it.

Thanks fellas. The only weird thing is that when I did the VF39 swap the one thing that stood out was the distinct disappearance of this sound. Now, iiiiiiit's baaaaa-ack.

True, but regardless, I wouldn't recommend tightening the wastegate anyway. WG flutter is a normal mechanical noise on a turbocharged car. :)

It is a reference to the sound not an actual diesel swap.

What would make it become more prominent?

I dunno. WG flutter is just the sound of your WG actuator arm opening and closing during partial throttle boost. So anything to do with the WG arm, actuator, BCS, etc could change the sound.

maybe now that it's colder you dont drive with windows open so you block out some of the other noise you generally hear.. (that's assuming you drove with window down... dunno)
