I have a 2000 Subaru Outback with the 2.5 liter engine. It has 130,000 miles on it I'm planning on draining and filling the front and rear diff this weekend and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for gear oil. I run Royal Purple in my Tacoma, and have been very satisfied. What do you think about running the RP 75w90 in my OB diffs? Anyone had trouble with the synthetics in their differentials? Thanks for the help! -Markus
I run synthetic Castrol in my Front and Rear Diff. No issues. OEM fluid is great too. Just make sure when you do the rear one that you remove the fill bolt first. Otherwise you might end up in a situation where you can't remove the fill bolt, but have already drained your diff.
Running Royal Purple in my 02 WRX diffs; no issues and even felt an improvement in how it shifted after I changed.
