I've been running stage 2 with invidia up/down. I have a hanger issue and wanted to know if anyone else has encountered this...

Does anyone's dp rub on that cross member under the tranny? seems like mine keeps moving over towards the passenger side and hits that cross member...like the support bracket off the tranny flexes. so I get a nice thump once and awhile...

I've gone as far as pushing the entire exhaust over towards the drivers side and tightening everything back up. I've also loosened the dp/turbo bolts and moved the exhaust over.

    any suggestions?

    well.
does the dp line up well with the j-hook?
either the turbo is sitting on a crooked/tilted uppipe, or your dp is just a little off.
doe the turbo inlet line up well with the compressor inlet?

What brand dp are you using? I've had problems with ERZ downpipe rubbing in a few places, but part of the problem is my automatic transmission, seems like there is less room down there. It is mostly rubbing on the firewall right behind the turbo.

dp lines up with hook. all lines are good...from what i can tell.

I orginally installed the dp months before the up...never had issues....
it started after the up install. you think it could be a bit off? I wondered about that, but I have no leaks and thought if it was off I would probably have leaks...!?!

should I loosen all bolts and tighten from the back of the exhaust and work my way forward until the up?

Invidia, never had issues until uppipe install. It's rubbing on the 2nd cross member under the tranny.

There's your problem -- the uppipe.

My guess is that it's too long or has the wrong bend and is causing the turbo to slightly rotate back towards the firewall, thus causing the downpipe to tilt down and hit the crossmember.

    What uppipe is it?

Invidia uppipe. at a glance it looked to have the same dimensions/angles as the the stock. Any suggestions on a fix?

About the only type of fix is to pull it out and get a different one (assuming this is what's causing the problem). Trying to force everything into place will probably end up with an uppipe/manifold leak since that is a pretty sensitive joint in terms of needing proper alignment to seal.

yeah, and doing the install myself with no leaks was amazing.....so I don't want to disrupt anything. I think I'll try to loosen the uppipe/turbo and see if there's any room to angle the turbo a tad and then reinstall the dp.

I can't beleive that 1/8 of an inch could cause rubbing. Oh well...

hehe, that x-meber is tuff stuff. it takes some real force to get it bending. when we put my DP on the second time it fit in there w/ out rubbing (not even close) i would say take off the DP and put it back on. cause somehow it doesnt sit right. its a little work but you will save yoru self buying an uppipe when you may not need one. and yu can always round it for extra safety.

thx! You're right, I wouldn't consider a new uppipe. we're talking an 1/8 inch I need to move this over. I'll try to adjust the turbo on the uppipe (if there's enough play in the studs/turbo holes w/o causing a leak). If that doesn't work I'll give the cross member a wack or two!!

yeah i would loosen the uppipe, just barely tighten the dp/turbo nuts and put the dp on the jhook finger tight. maybe have a buddy wiggle/align the entire system while you tighten up the bottem uppipe bolts. i'd hope that would get it in the ballpark.

    i'll be honest.
i'm not sure if you can get the uppipe to turbo tight while the dp is on.
i can't invision it being possble... even with my girl like hands..

 :eek3:  girl like hands? I bet the ladies just love that!

    Yeah, my plan is to....
    1. undo the turbo dp bolts & dp hanger bolt (using jack to keep it from falling out.)
    2. loosen the uppipe from the turbo
    3. wiggle/angle the turbo towards the drivers side (if possible)
    4. re-tighten the dp hanger (make sure entire exhaust is in the right position)
    5. tighten the turbo/uppipe bolts
    6. re-instal the dp/turbo bolts...

    hopefully it's that simple..... ;)
