DP CEL Fix???

I've been running a TXS Stealthback on my '05 Saabaru for the past month and it finally threw the P0420 CEL for the rear O2.

What CEL fixes have people used, mechanical, resistor, Pony Express, etc., and how well have they worked for you?

I know there are forums on NASIOC, but I want an answer from somebody who has done the fix themselves...

 

I'm hoping that the openecu nerds will figure out the cel disable addresses soon.

Also, there should be a new version of TunerPro coming out soon that will use the same XML definitions that the openecu nerds figured out.

 

But until then, you need to try doing the resistor fix first. :biggrin:

 

i have an extra mechanical fix laying around that i got from tim1223123uno's car.

 

try the perrin O2 simulator its $50 or something around that price and it works great

Mechanical fix will not work.....been there, done that. It was fine for a couple hundred miles, then it would pop. I have the Pony Express MIL Eliminator now and it works. The only issue I have encountered is that it still triggers when it is raining out. I thought it was due to a wire being exposed, but I used shrink wrap with the 'goo' in it and I also globbed a lot of silicone around the ends after it triggered in the rain. No luck....

However, it hasn't tripped this month, yet, even with all the rain. Go figure....

chin, if you still throw a cel w/one of the anti foulers try 2.
if 2 throws a code you mightactually have a bad sensor. :O

 

I did the resistor mod on mine about 2 years ago and still havent popped a code..

I will try to find the pic that shows how to do it.. takes like 30 mins to do pulling out the 02 and soldering in the resistor etc...

 

with 04's and on the resistor fix is less effective.

 

use the spark plug antifouler trick

 

Are they the 18mm anti-foulers?

 

i believe so, 99.9% sure.. search on nasioc to confirm

 

Tried 2 of them to start with.....the sensor was new, as well.... Try again.

The Pony Express fix is not that expensive, do it right the first time.

 

The Pony Express fix is about $1.50 in parts from Radio Shack.



NOTE: The above is for a 2002-03, the required parts may very well be different for 2004+. YMMV. I know the original poster has a 2005 but this is just to illustrate the basic concept of the electrical fix. If the mechanical fix works, then that would be my preferred route.

thanks... thats the one I used to do mine.. havent had a problem since that in over 2 yrs

 

I actually used the ECU tuner Enginuity and changed my CEL values for the P0420 code to disable the CEL. The CEL hasn't come back yet.
