2002 wrx 95,xxx, bone stock If i let the clutch out with not enough gas there is a rattling noise coming from behind the seat belt tensioner on the drivers side b-pillar. It sounds metal to metal and is definitely noticeable from a distance. I checked the exhaust by moving the exhaust around to see if it is interfering with anything and it is not. I have looked in the drivers rear door -> everything tight and in-order. Removed rear seat -> same as rear door, nothing. I have isolated it to the b-pillar. What the hell is it? If I shift perfect with matching rpms you wont here it... any suggestions?
Is your antenna out on full extend? The rattle cause a slight vibration that sounded a lot like the seat beat was rattling. This happen to me once and it drove me :banana: until....... Hope this help. GL
I will try the antenna. The noise is definitely coming from down under the car or from the bottom of the driver side doors. Its a very loud rattling and only does it when i release the clutch in between shifts. Occasionally I will get a slight rattle if i go over a harsh bump..

i checked the bolts holding the seat down to the floor. all tight now when i try to move the seat side to side there is some play but i can't see how this would make the loud knocking noise i am hearing.
I did put the jacks under the same spot when i swapped trannies:ugh: now i know better. I bent the drivers side straight. Have not done the passenger side.. Needless to say I am still hearing the same noise. Ill try the passenger side tomorrow... thanks for all your help! Should the bracket have a special bend or be pretty much straight. Im trying to figure out how that would make noise....
Here's a pic of the plate with an aftermarket bushing. Basically you don't want the retaining plate to be able to come in contact with the crossmember (or diff support mount). If it gets bent, then under certain conditions the stock rubber mount will flex enough for metal to metal contact. It drove me nuts when it happened to me on my first subaru, I couldn't figure it out until someone on nasioc told me about it.
^^^ bump I am have the exact same problem on my 03 wrx. I've had this problem and have dealt with it for a very long time now and I wanna fix this. Does anyone know how to fix this or a shop that can do it? Or is it easy to do yourself?
It's a pretty easy fix. The stock bushings aren't yellow like in the pictures, but you just want to make sure that plate isn't bent and touching the diff support mount. If it is bent, you can use an adjustable wrench or large pliers to straighten it out. You don't have to take anything apart, unless it's really messed up. There's a plate like this on both passenger and driver side, so check both. I was able to find it by hitting the diff support mount with my hand and the vibration from that reproduced the annoying squeak.
