Might plan to do a Honda Project next year and wondering Have anybody got any experience with Ebay Turbo Kits? I've notice a big thing that those kits goes for around $600-$1000. Real brand Turbo kits go for $3k+. So my question is whats the big huge thing here besides Brand Name? and yea people say "you get what you paid for". Should I go with Ebay Quality w/ less cost or Brand Name but cost me big $$$?
Some of the things I've seen is fitment....up and down pipes and manifolds don't match even though they came in the same setup. One of the guys up here in Duluth brought one for his Teg and the only thing he used out of the kit due to fitment was the turbo and intercooler.
I have heard of tons of problems with the turbos themselves. The rest of the stuff would be good if it was made out of better material.
Making a hackjob turbo honda on the cheap with garbage parts is pretty much in line with about 85% of the other d-series turboed ****boxes out there. It's very rare that you run across one that was actually done right -- and when done right, are fast as #@$$^$%^#%@%#%#@$%@ on the freeway.
+1 for a junkyard setup with OEM parts from other cars. I know a kid that wasted his cash on an SSAC setup and it is junk. His B16 runs like crap for what's attached to it.
My buddy got a ebay turbo for his 240 and it blew up the same day! I would say stay away from ebay for imporant stuff like turbos! I got my erz up and down pipe and they seem to be doing just fine and I got those of ebay!!!
Friend of mine turbo'd his car with an ebay kit. Wastegate stuck wide open, blew the motor. Buy a turbo + intercooler, fab the rest.
So does this mean I can buy an ebay downpipe for $120 instead of like a COBB DP for $500 because arent they pretty much just 3inch pipes for no reason. I mean i understand exhaust are a totally different thing it does matter but DP?
There are plenty of reasons that some downpipes are 3in, some are 4in, some are divorced and some are bellmouth. Try reading up on them sometime. Yes, there are differences between an ERZ and a Cobb. The Cobb is a nicer downpipe, with a cast iron section to keep the heat inside and keep the velocity up. They'll both do the same thing, but given the choice I'd take a Cobb. YMMV.
ohhh boy, If I can do that. I wont ask anything but you better have a good map for me. oh yea, and swap the AWD too right?
all those SSAC and other cheap kits for hondas are garbage. the exhaust manifold is guna crack in a month, then everything else is guna go to hell. it is really quite easy to put together a really good set up for under 1500 for a honda, so i would look into building your own kit if your serious.
^ cheap ones work fine, as long as its a cast or stainless log manifold. problem is all those cheap kits used crappy metal and shoty welded tubular manifolds that fall apart.
even the cast and log manis blow out the welds like no bodys business... that and they blow huge holes right on the sidewall of the tubing itself. bracing helps, but your still going to see the same stress problems eventually.
