Ok, I am installing a egt gauge in my car. Where are you supose to mount the sending unit? Should it be pre turbo in the up pipe. Or should it be post turbo in the down pipe?
i was under the impression that it had to be within 4-5 inches of the head, on one of the headers. thats if you were going to tap in your own sensor for the 'most accurate' results. dont quote me on this, i read this i dont see it being on the downpipe though then
I thought you wanted to get it on the pre side of the turbo. Guy at work was telling me to put it in the dp. That just didnt make sense to me.
on the drivers side bank of the manifold there is a small dot that stick out that is PERFECT for tapping an EGT. I have an example at home i could take a picture of when i get there.
The egt is installed to tell you the temp of your exhaust gasses in the head, so you want it as close to the head as you can get it. The little boos that is cast into the head is a good spot. I have my egt in the pass side manifold, but I pulled that side when I did my uppipe. Either side will work, you just want to make sure that you get ALL of the metal shavings out before you reinstall the mani. Russ
Thanks guys. I will let you know how the install goes this week. I got two new prosport gauges with the cluster bezel. It should look sweet.
Mine is ~1" off the head on the #3 cylinder.... The 'button' is a good place because you could see potential problems from either of the cyliders. However, I thought a more accurate reading from one cylinder was a better way to go at the time (small changes in one cylinder could be missed using the 'button', but now that I have experience, that may not be all that necessary). Doing it again, I may have used the 'button' just for the sake of it being easier.
Mine and the one's I have installed are in the boss on the left hand collector. The 2/4 bank is the hotter of the two sides, and would give you the highest reading.
sorry to bring this back up but i didn't want to start a new thread... so...when you guys tapped into the boss on the exhaust mani... which one is cylinder #2 of the two..???...the one in front or back..??...sorry for the noob questions..
and one more thing...if it's the #2 boss...why there...??...i mean why not the boss in #4..??...(if i'm picturing it right)....which one would be the shorter route...??..thanks again..
ok...here's a good example....this guy tapped the one that's facing the rear of the car (after install)....would it be better to do the other side because then the wire can just go straight up then having to go around the mani to the top..??? http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3367&highlight=egt+install
