What it means is that the cylinder walls are reinforced all the way around by the block. In the WRX, the cylinder walls have no reinforcement from the block at the top. The STi and other turbo 2.5L's have a couple extra reinforcing posts on the sides of the cylinders. I'm sure I can find some pics to explain this.

In fact, when I get the heads off of my EJ20 this week, I'll take pics of the cylinders on the EJ20 and the cylinders on the EJ22T I have sitting in the basement. You'll understand then for sure.

This is what the closed deck vs open looks like. It also has oil squirters, forged rods, and moly coated piston goodness.

    Good question, not sure.

I know of a company that will do this to a EJ257 block, not sure how safe that is though. :ugh: It could also be a mis-print.

Just called them up on the 2.5L closed deck and for the case they want $800...It is a closed deck (filled). They said that they have sold hundreds of them...whatever that means...

Cost more $$$...The 2.5L closed deck is $800...To bore out and sleeve the 2.2 to a 2.65 would cost way more...right? without internal upgrades yet...

In short, yes. the extra reinforcement of the block helps it prevent cracking and warping which can be caused by pushing lots of power out of the block. this block is TOUGH. also for those that dont know this is as close as you can buy, to a 22b motor. 22b = ej22g, legy turbo = ej22t. the ej22g was custom made by subaru, bored out from ej20gs.

there are only three cars in the club that run 2.0L closed deck blocks AFAIK. To make a 22B (which was engine code EJ22G) you need to bore a EJ20G block to 2.2L. The EJ22G block will end up costing way more than an EJ22, and doesn't really have any advantages over it either (other than mad tyt3 JDM f00)

I think the EJ20G is underrated, I wish I was keeping mine so i could see how much I can crank out of it. its the best block to use if you're being resricted to 2 liters for some reason, or just want to have a 2liter car.

Yep, I'm going to try to find a EJ20G front clip to swap into my RS after I pay the car off. Then I'll do stand alone ECU and a better turbo.
