What are these ideas for your car? Are you going to build a new car from scratch, starting with the engine?

No, I am just kidding ... but really, what are your plans?

well the IDEA so far is that i want to buy a hobby car that can do well on the dirt as well as on the street i want somewhat upwards of about 400 WHP

NOTE: that this is my dream car for some they want Lamborghinis or porches or some sort of luxury sport im a simple man..i love the subaru performance the ability to create a custom car just appeals to me more than buying something for 100k that i didn't put any work into myself

    performance

    1. once i get this job im going to start trolling around for a 00-01 2.5 RS (im totally obsessed with the model for some reason)
its going to have JDM parts (i understand that its probably a dumb expensive idea but meh its a hobby car)

    2. after buying the car i shall start with the performance parts starting with the access port (for me money isnt really a big deal because i don't have to pay my college loans till mid 09 and i live with my rents with my pops whos a subaru enthusiast as well as an ex semi-pro rally racer) im thinking about the cobb 2.0 AP

    3. then i shall buy the engine im looking at either an 08+ JDM or USDM engine (hopefully the JDM but i don't care they are both fairly good engines either way)

    4. after buying the engine im going to get a 6 speed manual trans (they are designed better than the 5 speeds)with a lightweight flywheel and a multi layer clutch (so it can handle 400 HP)

    5. not sure about the turbo yet it will either come from garret or blouch (blouch are fairly good turbos)

    6. ill get a suspension from rallispec probably the 55-51 rally suspension with hydraulic bump top system

as for the rest im still in the process

    the Look

1.well for the exterior of the car i want a WR blue paint job
2.i want the yellow subaru rally logos on the side
    3.HIDS
    for the Interior
    4. i want a black and blue color match
    5. sparco seats
    6. sparco pedals
    7. the limited edition subaru rally sport 6speed shifter

    there will be more :D

Edit: and i do realize that it might be hard to get 400whp but im totally open to ideas and i have been looking around on nabisco here and iclub im really determined to do this

i still don't get why you want to waste $$ on new 08 stuff? 400whp is easier then you think to get to on any of the year sti's. hell you can buy forester xt crate motors for around 3k and you would be changing all the things that make it different then a sti to get to 400whp anyway. and ap is a waste of money because anything you cant do with open ecu you would have to go to a stand alone to get anyway.

i suppose you could get the same results from a different engine than from an 08 its because its a newer engine less miles..

however isn't the new engine more efficient?

just build your set up to the way you want the car to act and what you want out of it. you can get a turbo that makes 400whp to spool before 3500rpm if you ave the right parts. no need to waste the $$ like i said. and you can always buy the avcs sensors, cams, and came gears and run avcs on a aux map on any sti head if you think you have to have it.

depending on when your sti was made, some (mine) got the heads that have the cam sensor boss on them. it just needs to be drilled out.

Buying an 08 STi motor would be a total waste. Like Fobia said, a crate Forester motor is around 3k ish. And while AVCS intake and exhaust is neat and all, the gains on it might not be worth the effort.

There are tons of clutches out there that will handle 400whp. 400whp on a 257 isn't really hard to attain these days.

And OpenECU is cool, but keep in mind that to run different fuels you will need to have a laptop that you carry around with you to switch the maps. The AP is nice, but from experience, you'd be better off going standalone for something like this.
