2005 outback XT 116k fully stock, auto trans Pulled an ER SP code on the way home from work and speedo went dead. I pulled out my phone with an ODB app and it was still reading a speed from the ECU. Check engine light did not illuminate only the reading in the odo screen. Looked up on Legacy GT and found this: “Er SP” Vehicle speed signal abnormal (ABS/VDC diagnostic trouble code information) Tested ABS system on the icey road in front of my house with my roommates watching the wheels. They said that the ABS worked on all wheels and I could feel the pedal kick like normal. Is there something else I can look at before I take it into the pro's to fix? Scotty
So the ABS light is not on abnormally? Speedometer speed is sent from the ABS to the Combo Meter via CAN (controller area network). Speed in the engine data comes from the transmission, I think. Did it recover after a key cycle? Todd
No lights at all came on when the issue happened. After a few power cycles the speedo starts working again and the code is gone. Then after driving a while today the speedo went 0-100-50-60-30-70-0 to not reading at all and the er sp error showing again. Car does not enter limp mode, full boost availible, im running torque app on my phone to view all ecu read outs and everything is showing normal.
When i got in the car tonight after work. Clock showed acc and the passanger airbag light was flashing. Speedo worked all the way home, only the e/t read out was not working. Mpg, ave mpg, dist empty, temp and clock all worked.
