I am in the market for getting an exhaust done on my 2008 wrx, and was curious to see if and what other people had gone with. Might be on a bit of a budget, but If I can find one for the right price i might bite. I know one isnt necessarily better than the other and most of it is based on personal preference. I dont mind it being loud. I do like the deep tones some of them have. One of my best friends just got a Audi S4 that has a nice sounding magnaflow installed on it. Not too loud but deep sound that comes out. Any other 08'ers out there that have done an exhaust upgrade?
Let me dig up Ben's exhaust thread. He has had 99% of them out there. NASIOC Thread - Scroll down. There are YouTube videos to watch. He also has links where you can read about them. He did write-ups on most of them and you can find the links on the first page of this thread. Granted he has a 2011... but you can get the idea. I am running a 2011 WRX Exhaust (Quad Tip) on my 2009.
I recently installed a Magnaflow catback for my 08 lgt. Granted it is not a wrx and may have some sound differences, it is one of the more subtle catbacks I have heard. It does give a nice rumble when you get on it, however, which it sounds like that's what you are looking for. I don't have any sound clips of it, but I think hearing it in person would give you a better example anyways. I would be more than willing to let you hear it at one of the Tuesday meets at Lake Calhoun.
parked next to you last night. this exhaust looks great...really fills out the bumper cutouts. What make/ model is it? Sorry I couldn't find it above.
Its the Invidia Q300. I really do like the exhaust sound, the welds are quality, it looks nice. However, the flex pipe design of this exhaust sucks for our cars. I actually had Fobia cut mine up last week for a better fit. Notice it hanging down in the picture below. I would really suggest reading Ben's thread. There are a few better options out there.
I spent some time at work today browsing around and I did see a magnaflow cat back for ~701. would probably have to get a different downpipe to make it a full turbo back. Would you guys recommend getting them all in one shot? I am assuming so. Would love to hear some sounds of the different exhausts out there. I cant imagine that it would sound too different on another car. I should be free a little more later this summer due to me finishing school and working full time, but I will be free during the weekends all summer in a couple weeks.
The videos were super helpful. It gave me a good insight on what I would like in a sound. Will some of the later year exhaust systems meant for 09+ and up be compatible with a 2008 wrx sedan regarding fitting? I really like the quad exhaust from invidia.
Been doing my own dinking around and I really like the nividia N1. They do offer it for the 2008 sedan in dualies or a single pipe. Is there really a difference in a 2vs1 pipe?
I like Q300 for sedan, sounded good on my car. Also, megan racing has good sounding exhaust for sedans.
Megan only makes it for the 02-07 I also didnt see anything for the 08 sedans on the nameless site. I do like the sounds of the -invidia n1, q300 - Cobb cat back (seems to be a bit out of my price range though) - Magnaflow dual outlet catback exhaust
I have Perrin stealth for my 2010 sedan and think its the bee's knees. Good tone and hella good quality craftsmanship. $1300 from DP back and well worth every penny.
The spt exhaust has a very nice tone to it. Low, definitely loud with the windows down, super quiet at cruising speeds. Should be able to find them cheap too.
How are they crap build quality? Just wondering since mine came on from the dealer and wonder what I should look out for.
I have had the muffler delete kit from nameless since end of december. it sounds friggen awesome. nice throaty sound, and does not drone at 55-65mph. its got awesome bark at WOT too. I just purchased the midpipe (finish off the full cat back) from them on 4/24 and building just went underway. pairing the muffler delete kit with the midpipe i ordered (one resonator, no premufflers) i will also get a bit of turbo scroll when i pull up to the stop signs/lights all in all i did ALOT of video searching on youtube before i purchased anything at all. I went with no mufflers in the kits for my subie cuz ive always had/liked cars loud (also quality sounding tho). I am a cnc machinist and also do allot of welding, and Nameless' products are of the best quality in my opinion. perfect welds and high quality stainless. just my .02 cents. good luck!
So did I. They have issues with the welds from the flanges, rusting and exhaust leaks. Unless warranty is your concern, I have no idea why people buy these over other options.
ahh.. gotcha. I'll keep an eye on it but it only has 2500 miles on it so it should be ok for now. I just figured since it was an option that was already on the car it was something that I didnt have to buy lol.
