Might be a stupid question, oh well. Is it worth swaping my 07' WRX muffler with an STi one? The one I am currently looking at is an 06' STi muffler with 25,000 miles on it. And if so, what should I offer the kid?

There will be a drop in backpressure. Maybe a slight sound change.

$75-100 is what I would offer, depending on the condition.

ya i assume the most restrictive part of my exhaust is the down pipe, so i wasnt expecting a power gain. but since I am an idiot i figured it would be nice untill I get the money to go big. the kid says 100 so that sounds right, I will low ball him and see what he says.

prices for these things are all over the place -- I've seen ranges of $25 - 200 before.

Actually, the STI muffler has about 1/2 the backpressure of the stock WRX exhaust. Now only if I could find the link from nasioc..

Don't forget you get that cool "STi" logo on the muffler tip. According to ricer theory, that should be good for +20 hp right there :)

Interesting. So the guy blew a leaf blower through the exhaust and measured the flow?

I'm also curious about a lot of other variables, but... it's more data than I've ever seen anyone else try to get out on the internet (in regards to mufflers).

Cool. I retract my previous statement.

Yeah, I liked his "study," at least some real data was attached.

    However:

Race, I wouldn't expect any real kind of performance gain from just slapping on the muffler to an otherwise stock car. Now, if you're running stage 1 or 2, you will be able to add a tad more timing (especially up top) and push a little more boost.

no worries I understand that it takes a little more time and money to get real power gains. I just think it might be a cool add on for the time being. I do plan on getting the stage one. And if I decide on the stage two though, there really isnt any reason to get the muffler. so we will see.

i went from a stock 04 dual exhuast to an 07 sti axelback and there was a slight sound difference; plus, u could feel a tad bit more air flow going through easier :)

The NASIOC "test" is for a 2002 twin tip WRX exhaust. There doesn't seem to be any definitive evidence the the 06+ WRX single tips on the 2.5Ls are any different from an STi axleback other than the stamped tip.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a twin tip Maddad Whisper 2.5" but remain concerned I'm dropping money solely on sound and not performance (stopping power upgrades at VF39 swap).

Damn, I want that exhaust. I'm still on the fence on if 3" vs 2.5" axleback (assuming they're both of the same design) would be much different. I honestly don't think you need to worry about losing power with the Maddad. Lots of Subie owners are more then happy with the Prodrive axleback, and that's 2.5".

I'm not concerned about losing power, but whether or not I really gain any over the stock axle-back in terms of daily driver use versus WOT.

I've spent a lot of time talking with Rich from Maddad (great guy BTW) and he sells it on the sound not the power adder. Since I'm trying to be as stealth as possible I'm wondering if the $$$ for the axleback is better spent elsewhere...like a protune ;).
