So I have been getting some complaints from my neighbors about my car when I warm it up before school in the morning. I have a Invidia catless DP and SPT CB, I was wondering if there is a silencer for the SPT. I just don't need them complaining everyday. My other option is to put the stock CB back on, I just don't know if it will mate up with the new DP??? :dunno:

Yeah, you must be suffering from haters.

I had a full catless APS 3" TBE on my 02 and other than making remarks that something must be wrong with my car my neighbors, in two different locations, never complained.

I think the APS justs sounds more gooderer.

I've never had any real complaints. The girl across the street commented on it, but didn't really complain. And my is loud enough and causes so much shaking to trip the magic eye on my garage door.

It does resonate it my basement pretty good so I can only image what the neighbors really think. The issue is that my car sits and idles at 1500-1800 trying to warm it up, if it sat at 500-600 like it does when it's warm I doubt there would be an issue.

Well no offense guys but telling stories about your exhaust and your neighbors doesn't really help to shut my neighbors up. And yes they are on the old side of things.

if you are in the car when you are warming it up, quick hit the gas petal down to rev it up to like 3k or so and let of and that should take it out of the fast idle for you.

the spt catback is one of the quieter that i've ever heard. don't worry about it. I had some old lady yell at me about my exhause in my old apartment. I told her that It was a high performance vehicle, and that she should mind her own business. seriously, as long as your not revving your engine late at night and your not being puropsely disruptive, then you have nothing to worry about. Be happy you have a sweet sounding exhaust and revel in the fact it makes people near you uncomfortable. :) I do. I wouldn't change anything because a neighbor or two said my exhaust was loud. Screw that! let them stress out about something trivial like your exhaust...

poor neighbers. The SPT is quiet. mine is getting louder I think.......wearing in.
Ask them....."Is MY exhaust louder than the Harley's that drive by???"

"Sorry officer, but this is an OEM Subaru Performance exhaust SOLD from the dealership."

Just sit in the driveway and rev the motor a dozen times, and when the whiners come out to complain, bust their lip open and burn their house down.

On a side note, did anyone ever tell you that it's not necessary to "warm up" you're car? You can just start it, and go, just don't beat on it until the oil warms up.

Get a Harley, and warm that up every morning, after a few of those, they will welcome the relatively quiet subaru with open arms...

Wrong, heated seats were an option in 04 and after. They were even on the cloth seats. In fact I have used them on Scuba Steve's finance's car, MY04 heated cloth seats sunroof and factory sub. I believe the STi limited has them stock.

just tap the gas and drop it out of high idle. it wont hurt the car it will just take it slightly longer to warm up.

also take off the cat-back one day then warm your car up. see if the B&M about that!

oh please, just pull the car out of the garage and let it idle for a few moments, then go on your marry way.

no offense chet, but letting your car idle in weather like this...everyday IS not needed.

Letting your car idle to warm up in any weather isn't needed. Start it, wait 60 seconds for the oil pressure to build up and go on your marry way.

As for the loud comment, what about a catted DP. That'd help you and those behind you.

My apartment is above the attached garages for the unit and my new neighbors STi with stock exhaust makes the floor vibrate when it pulls into the garage under my living room. Fortunately he has another Subaru owner as a neighbor so the noise is tolerable (if not kinda cool).

However it is annoying that he has to fan the throttle so much just to pull into his garage. I had a car with a clutch like a button and I don't recall the need to fan the throttle to pull into a garage or parking spot. He also has a 2 minute turbo timer. Who still uses those? :puke:

Moral of the story is if you're not being excessive about your car noise, such as warming it up or revving your engine like a douchebag in your driveway, then they really shouldn't be complaining. I agree with all the above about not warming up your car. If you're using a block heater (how long have you lived in MN?) then maybe you'd want to warm it up a minute or so before driving off or you could just run easy for a couple minutes on the road. Should be easy enough unless the interstate onramp is within sight of your driveway?

Well the stock axle back doesn't fit, different angles on the flange. So the SPT stays!

I have gotten some complaints from 2 people in my building. when i pushed back at their yappy little dogs being more annoying and crapping in the building, resistance to my several loud exhausts evaporated.

I get more complaints about a 250cc scooter than i do about the WRX though.

Well thats your call then, if you don't like them or don't really care, keep your exhaust, hopefully they don't call the cops.
If its too loud, and you feel bad about it, do something about it. Find a different cb, or find a silencer. I'm sure if you went back to your old cb, it can be fabricated to mount back to your invidia dp.

In the mornings just stick in a home made silencer of some sorts then take it out before you leave... Your gonna take a huge hit in HP with the stock CBE. Plus your gonna spend more money to fab up a flange on the stock ABE?

Yeah, I can tell you that for a fact. The stock WRX muffler is a huge restriction. I just gained at least 15% more engine load (direct calculation to torque) from a Maddad Whisper and retune this weekend.

    DIY:
What I've done is I wrapped a single layer of dynomat on the inside of the exhaust tip and than used aluminum roof flashing (lowe's, homedepot, etc), you can decide the length. I basically went with a roll that will amount close to the inside diameter of the muffler filter. You want to unwind it as tight as possible and than drill a hole through it. I fastened mine thru the hole intended for the silencer cap.

Anyway the idea behind this is with the exhaust tip being soo big and thin, it projects loud sound waves that travel very far. And by putting a quishen layer between a thick solid layer really helps reduce the noise level. At least with my setup.

Or just get a restrictor installed at the tip. I have not had any complaint's yet. Knock on wood!

I could take some, but I'll need someone to help post it. Better yet, your probably better off hearing it. LOL Mine is setup to stick out pass the tip, because my car is white and I'm starting notice some exhaust tanning on the bumper before this addition. Anyway Nuke can comment to the noise factor, he's been in the car DCTC.
