Soak the bolts good the night before with wd-40 or another penetrating oil. Smart money would be to buy all new Subaru gaskets if your exhuast didn't come with. Depending on the condition of the existing bolts/nuts you might want to plan on a trip to the hardware store if you break rusted/corroded ones.

Depending on the type of DP you might need to trim the heat shield.

    Congrats!! stage 2!!

LOL...spending time taking off the factory heat shield. Yuk...just takes time.

And as mentioned..soak those bolts! I love PB blaster, works everytime.

New gaskets are a great idea, even if you have low miles. Also, depending on the new pipes (cobb three inch) you may want to use kartboy hangers.

I don't know if the STi has the same tranny cross member as the WRX, but my invidia came very close to the crossmember and without the hangers it would tap up against it once and a while.

get it as far off the ground as possible, and remove as few bolts as possible. start with by unbolting the catback flange (the one with the spring bolts) then pop the catback off it's hangers and slide it out
then unhook the 02 sensor adn just pull the turbo heat shield, the turbo to DP bolts, the DP/Transmission mount bolt and the hanger bolt. the whole thing DP/cat pipe will move back and down.

Reverse this procedure to put it all back in. PB Blaster is your friend. MAKE SURE THE WHOLE DAMN THING IS ICE COLD BEFORE STARTING. not only will this save you from unneeded burns, but the bolts have a nasty habit of seizing up when their warm.

Use fresh gaskets for everything and make sure you torque the hell out of everything.

I have a couple (2) kartboy long hangers laying around let me know if you want them, something like $8 or so a piece.

Had mine done with only 6000 miles on the car. Two or three bolts snapped and one nut on the turbo had to be torched off. Sure hope soaking overnight and have a cold pipe helps because mine was a pain in the A**.

^^^^Yikes! PB blaster, soaking, tapping instead of sheer force on those turbo bolts will get you a long way.

actually most times if they are rusted at all you HAVE to heat them cherry red to get them off with an impact..... but I hear what youa re saying... there is truth there... but older bolts need red hot heat mroe than cold.. ha ha
