Put down 276whp and 291wtq on RS's "Heartbreaker" Mustang Dyno on just 16 PSI and 92 octane (It's a 16G turbo). It obviously has a lot more top end potential but I'm kind of digging the postage stamp like torque curve. Drivability and low end was what I was after.

Looong story... but essentially yes. I bought it in may with the 16G on it.

"Session" is a relative term. It was there for a lot of work. I think the tune was about 2 hours though if that is what you are asking.

Solid numbers out of a 16g, and at pretty low boost too. Makes me want to look into an evoIII 16g for the toaster.

Those look like a good bunch of numbers ya got there. :) Even though you were going for drivability why did you settle for 16psi? That turbo comes alive at 19-21psi. I don't think you'd loose anything low end by bumping up the boost in the 4-6K area. I could be mistaken

The car still had the stock intercooler and just couldn't keep up. I tried it at higher boost and it didn't net much higher numbers. It also didn't help that there was a volcano eruption inside the shop today. I think we were close to 90 degrees inside the shop.

OMG, that sucks. 90 is warm.

So you think his IC is the restrictor? Get a bigger/better IC and go for another tune?

Dumb question, but did you put a 16G on an STi or a WRX with some STi badges? Is it a 2.0WRX or 2.5WRX/STi?

Separately, how do you like the KDWs?

I love this question. It strikes me that if you simply put WRX fog lights on a WRX, everyone will think you have a WRX and simply threw the kitchen sink of STi parts at it. It amuses me to no end that those fogs are more associated with identifying wrx vs STi than basically anything else. I guess the line goes if it doesn't have fogs, it could be either but if it HAS fogs, it must be a WRX? It's an 04 STi...

The KDWs are nice. I recommend them because they're comparable and a lot cheaper than the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s. The best thing about the tires is their WET performance which is staggering.

Where did I address the fogs? I referenced the badge only so no need to take an honest question in a perversely personal/defensive way. Big deal, it's a "real" STi...congrats. It is nonsensical that a stock STi has the fogs deleted anyway.

    The reason I asked my original question is that I didn't think a 16G was a meaningful step-up from a VF39 on an STi/2.5L, that's all. I was not questioning your STi-ness.

Thanks for the feedback on the KDWs. As soon as my RE92s die I will have them.

well forgive me but I was more replying to the great number of people who have asked me that based solely on the exterior of the car (turbo aside). Save the attitude though, I owned a WRX for 4 years. I don't take it as an insult. In fact, it's pretty clear from what I've done to it I PREFER the WRX look. I just likey my 6-speed, DCCD, brembos, 2.5L, etc. The blue interior is kinda growing on me though. I really didn't like it at first.

I do not think the 16G was put on the car as an upgrade. In fact, I think they intended to use a "stage 2" type map. Again, I don't know the original owner to go ask. If I did, I'd ask him first what the hell those two wholes in the trunk were for first though... Aren't used cars fun?

^^^ Ah, who cares. As long as you have fun and enjoy it...that's what matters. Now go get yourself a bigger IC and get it re-tuned. That 16g isn't even awake at 16psi.

If you'd like to donate a few grand to make it happen, I won't complain. Spending a couple grand on her immediately after buying it was not what I wanted but hey, I paid less for it so I just ended up putting that money into fixing it. Such is life. Point is, I did what was cost effective.

No need/worries. Just curious as to what people are doing with their cars. I've been enjoying the addition of a VF39 to my 07 WRX wagon but I'm already thinking "what's next"...20G, 35R, whathavethee.

I'd be curious to see what would happen if the 16G was Bullt00ned to peak in the low 20s!

Arg, I thought this too right after you tuned me. It's getting old now though, falls flat on its face after 5k rpm, I almost hit the windshield it falls off so hard

I would say VF39 + TMIC FTW

Hehe, true. I guess I thought he was just asking what IC to get with just those mods. The VF39 + TMIC setup is pretty damn balanced on the 2.5L WRX's.

Not bad numbers at all! I hit about the SAME NUMBERS at 16psi on my EVO3-16G-8cm there. I have full bolt-ons and TMIC, big maf, injectors, FP, headers, turbo inlet etc.

What I just like about the USDM motors is the power drop up top 6500+. I've seen this on STi's and 2.0L WRX. I'm happy to be able to hold my power all the way to 7000rpms without it dropping steep. I'm running that 2.2T shortblock on WRX heads (ported intake) no TGVs.

Awesome numbers! I would get a 16G as a replacement for the VF39 anyday. But if I wanted more it's be EVO3-16G-8cm. This is keeping the car close to stage 2 with a better turbo.

    Great numbers!
