Well im looking for cheap but okay starter car.. i got alot of time and tools to fix most things so help me figure this out..
Well ive found a few deals..
    1. 500$- 1995 Subaru Impreza L 2.2L: Bad tranny; Auto; 200k miles
    2. 800$- 1996 Subaru Impreza L 1.8L: Rear quaterpanel smashed, trunk might be damaged; no front bumper, exhuast system, intake or rims

I personally want the 2.2L and wouldnt have a problem replacing transmission.. thing is.. how hard is it to do conversion?

The 1.8 requires more work and is more expensive plus i need more parts.. so im not sure but itll probably be 1000(plus its price) to get it running..

How much could i get tranny(auto and manual) that would work? and what trannys would work? how much would you guys estimate total price of 2.2 if i wanted to get it running with a manual?

    All help is appreicated.

well i searched some and found info on what i would need. but whats pricing of all that stuff?

what option do you guys suggest and what option do you think is cheapest, 2.2l impreza converted to manual, or 1.8l fix body work and getting missing things? All work would be done by myself.. so not considering labor rates...

cheapest.... save at least $1500... then that will put you into a ball game that wont require you grabbing your ankles quite so much

If this was my choice, I'd get the 2.2 and a manual tranny over getting the 1.8 and fixing all that stuff.

The 1.8 seems to have way more wrong with it and cost more.

Also, a bit later this year I'll have a manual swap setup for sale cheap (like $200 or less cheap) - tranny, flywheel, clutch (used), pressure plate, pedals, driveshaft, rear-end, everything. ;) (but it'll probably be several months before its ready to go)
