First mod recommendation post

    Hey, I have a 2002 WRX that is mostly stock and I'm wondering what are some basic tasteful modifications that I can do to make it nice. Any help is welcome! Thanks

    Hi, Josh! I'm looking to get the best of both worlds, honestly. The only mechanical change that I know of is that it has a Cobb Accessport and a Mishimoto radiator. Regarding appearance, I would like to find some decent aftermarket head and taillights that aren't too tacky-looking and a way to combat some light surface rust.

    Pics of car!? If you need help with sizing of said pics, lmk. I can give you some ideas if i see what your working with already.

    Alot of people black out the headlights(they can be color matched too). Others go ebay or Morettes. Aftermarket tends to be a little spendy(with exception of ebay of course).

    You can get a front lip for around $100-150 that will really improve the looks of the front and make it appear lower.

    Then there are springs/struts/coilovers for lowering it. Wheels to personalize it. Tint for the windows/tail lights/headlights....i mean I could go on and on and on. Lol.

    And we haven't even started talking about power upgrades.

    Budget?

    Maybe get a new set of OEM lights? The ones I have on now are yellowed as sin. I also want to know how to disable the daytime running lights and then get yellow fog lights too. The windows are tinted blue as you'll see in the photo. Regarding a budget, I'm a college student so it can't be anything ridiculous.

    Also, I was looking at the possibility of getting new or new-to-me rims preferably in a black, white, or gold. I'm not apposed to painting/plasti-dipping anything either.

    Well for power, stage 2(which is amazing bang for the buck hp mod) will run you about $1,000. That will liven it up alot. You should see about a 40-50hp gain going from 170 or 180hp to 220-230hp. It is quite noticeable!

    You would be suprised what a $20 headlight restoration kit to a set of yellowed headlights. The pic that i posted was of mine. They were very yellow with alot of scratches and imperfections. $20 and about 4 hours of elbow grease and I saved quite a bit of money. I then recommend getting them clear bra'd to keep them from scratching and oxidation in the future. Mine were done 5-6 years ago and they still look great! If they aren't cracked, i'd give the restoration kit a go.

    I have yellow foglight overlays. They are dirty right now, but here is a pic.

    The yellow fogs could possibly be done by Chris at @FlawlessFrontEnds&Tint if he has the yellow film. But you'd have to ask him. He also does clear bras. He did my headlights. ;)

    He does great work for really competitive prices!

    Pardon my not being able to Google and find you a direct link, but Google how to disable the drl's. Not trying to be a dick, just saying it's fairly easy and common. Was probably the first thing I did to my car, as well as wiring in the front corner lights to blink with the blinkers.

    Anywho, there's some sort of DRL module in the engine bay and I'm pretty sure you just find the right harness and then unplug it. Close to the right strut tower if I remember right.

    That's the easiest mod ever. All you have to do is drive it and wait for the inevitable death.

    3M makes a great headlight restoration kit that I used on my bugeye that worked great. I think its like $15-20 but its worth it big time. All you really need is a household drill and the kit provides everything else

    Mod choices depend upon what you want from the car.

    You have a car in a current state, and you want some change from that state. You want something different.

    So, what do you want different? What do you find less than ideal, lack luster, or annoying?

    If you want feedback based on a lot of modding, I will suggest bushings as one of the better mods available. If done extensively, it can really transform the feel of the car. Every bushing and mount has an effect. If you think the steering is vague, slow, or lacks feel, there are bushings that fix that. If you think the shifter feels mushy and flops around too much, there are bushings for that. If you dislike the lack of road feel and floppiness in the chassis, there are bushings for that. If you dislike the fact that you can't really feel the engine, yep bushings for that. If you dislike the drivetrain slop and find the car difficult to drive slowly and has a lot of bucking, again bushings available. When done extensively, you can transform a pretty sloppy, vague, and sensation devoid vehicle into something significantly more precise, immediate, and tactile. Also when done extensively, it as an upgrade is one of the more transformative mods you can do to the car.
