I am interested in getting a pet for my classroom that the students can enjoy, that will be mildly low maintenance, and fun for them to look at (especially my special needs students). I have settled on the idea for now of a lizard of some sort, and would like to get the ball rolling to hopefully get it in the next few weeks. I am looking for a home for it, and I am hoping that someone has an extra tank laying around that they don't plan to use. I am going on low budget for it, so the cheaper the better. Thanks guys! Appreciate it. I teach K-6 Spanish in South St. Paul. I have another good buddy who has a turtle for his class pet, and I am leaning towards a Leopard Gecko (although I heard that there is hamster looking for a new home as well...haha).

I've had a bearded dragon for almost a year now and I gotta say it was better than my iguana I had before that. The biggest they get is about 16-24" long, they're super friendly, and very easy to take care of. Once a day I'll feed it about 10 crickets and give her a handful of lettuce, yes they're omnivores. As far as getting started it was pretty simple. I started with a 55gallon tank, got some plexiglass for the top, drilled holes in it, bought two heat lamps with 100w UV bulbs, heating pad, some tank flooring, and a food dish. I went down to the rock beach in Duluth and got some big rocks and some drift wood to put in the cage so she has a scenery (cleaned everything first of course). In the morning I turn on the lamps at 100% and leave them on for right around 14 hours then turn them down to 50% before checkin in for the night. These procedures are going to be pretty close to any lizard with some slight variations of course.
