Anyone on here fly fish? Tie your own flies? Just thought I would see, this cold and lack of rivers and time is putting a damper on my fishing season... Started tying flies until it gets warm again.

This is something I really want to get into. A couple friends of mine bought St. Croix fly blanks and took a fly rod building class. They only go out once or twice a year though.

Well get into it, especially if you enjoy fishing and want a new challenge, but I am overall somewhat disappointed in Mnsubaru's participation in this sport... I bet if I asked about Musky fishing you all would be all over it...

I've never done this, but have always been interested in learning. I love eating trout and salmon and it would be great to catch my own instead of getting pwned by price at the store!
    Lets do this!

I've always wanted to try fly fishing, getting tired of bass fishing, lol... maybe next year. fly fishing isn't just for trout and salmon, you can pretty much fly fish for anything. fly fishing for smallies is fun, seen some guy do it a few years back in the back waters of the st croix

Largemouth and Bluegills are probably the easiest way to learn. They are a lot less likely to get scared of an imperfect fly placement.

Never tried walleye, might be tricky, and I don't have heavy enough stuff for musky/pike. Thought about getting some but it wouldn't pay with the time I have...

I've got a 4 and 7 weight pair of rods I haven't used in a while. Going to Alaska next June, I'd be more than willing to go for a trip with anyone to get back into the sport.

Alaska would be pretty bad-ass... I spent the summer in western Montana, and will be again this coming summer. There was for sure some excellent trout fishing there. And I haven't picked up a spinning rod since early June, while my fly-rod never left my car.
