for real this time. I have come to a realization this week. I could use the money and space now. and the amount of work I want to put into it, I could just as easily start from scratch.

I have the 4Runner for "hauling" (as much as the wagon can do, anyway).

I have the XT6 for comfort, and I really didn't even get a bite on it.

The wagon's purpose now is a toy. performance. in which case, I'm better off starting with a non-wagon chassis. So I'm thinking, sell the wagon essentially as-is. then, save up, and maybe next summer fly out and get a rust-free shell from the PNW. maybe even do it for the WCSS.

So, that all said. Most of you know the frankenwagon fairly thoroughly....but here's the info as it is now:

It started life as a '92 Loyale, 1.8l N/A SPFI EA82, with a 3AT FWD tranny, in Florida. in ~'98, my dad bought it, and drove it back to MN.

It has seen about 5 full MN winters since then. the underside is not spotless. but VERY solid.

it does have some cosmetic rust spots on the body from it's days in Florida. The driver's door has a big spot near the handle, and both rear quarters have a couple spots from under the trim below the windows.

It has a 4WD and 5MT swap, using an '88 RX FT4WD D/R transmission. it has a modified (lengthened) one-piece driveshaft from an '83 wagon. center diff lock solenoids are wired to the button on the top of the shifter from a PT4WD loyale.

It has a complete 5-lug swap using '92 FWD (larger diameter front shafts!) legacy L knuckles, bearings, and axles. It is currently running MOOG EA81 tie rod ends and MOOG EJ ball joints. both front wheel bearings were replaced within the last year (15k miles or so). Rear is XT6 hubs/rotors/backing plates and Nissan 200SX calipers. It uses Legacy handbrake handle/cables for a working rear handbrake conversion.

'86 XT turbo steering rack, slightly quicker ratio.

    rebuilt EJ power steering pump

XT6 front and rear sway bars

SuperPro Poly front sway bar bushings, and leading rod bushings

'01 Legacy front struts, and '03 Mazda Miata rear shocks (both stock, somewhat used). Genuine Ground-Control Coilover Sleeve springs with 250/275 lb/in springs front/rear.

    '02 2.5RS front brakes

It has a smaller front bumper from an '85.

The front fenders are essentially junk. some rust on the edges, bends, etc....I have a pair of good ones off an '86 that would need a bit of work to make look awesome (or just hide it under the body kit).

the hood has many rust spots, peeling spray paing, and a number of nasty creases. but I have a hood from an '85 (no windshield washer nozzles for that shaved look!! it has the in-cowl ones already mounted/plumbed) that is straight and rust-free...but has peeling clear-coat.

motor is a '92 EJ22e with almost 290k miles on it! It's tired, abused, and in rough shape. BUT, I have a '93 EJ22e with fairly low mileage engine in the shed that I will put in it, along with a new clutch.

It will also include (may or may not be fully installed.....) a full RX body kit, rear spats modified for the wagon. the front air dam did not include the metal brackets to fully mount it, and I didn't realize there were pieces missing until it was damaged. the brackets that mount to the fenders are pulling away from the dam, and there are cracks in the bottoms of the corners. could be repaired.....by someone with more time/patience/skill than I.

It has a trailer hitch, bolted to the rear bumper. I trust it for ~800lbs or so. good for hauling a little utility trailer around with things like mattresses and brush. not good for boats

gutter trim was removed years ago. you don't notice that it's missing, unless you're looking for it and knew that it was there. it didn't agree with the gutter-mount roof racks....

there are 4 spots on the roof where the fairing on my roof rack wore through the paint.

Yakima roof rack pictured is NOT included!!!!!

    XT6 front seats

    Manual seat belt conversion

battery tray is rusted out. I made a little bracket out of aluminum from Home Depot, so the battery is solidly mounted. but....there's still rust under it. I had planned on doing some cutting/welding with the new motor.

    things I am undecided on:
rear LSD. It has a clutch-type LSD that matches the RX transmission. I would like to put it in my XT6. so this will probably come with an open rear diff. but might get an SVX VLSD...

wheels/tires. I'm thinking I'll probably sell it with the bronze WRX wheels with fairly worn GoodYear UltraGrip ice tires that are on my XT6. But I also have a set of gold 17" Rota Torques with 215/45r17 Kumho Ecsta ASTs on them.

probably won't have a stereo (I could probably grab a stock one from the junkyard for pretty cheap though...).

fog/driving lights. currently has a pair of Hella Optilux combo Fog/Driving lights mounted on the bumper (holes drilled, wiring run, etc.). I love these lights, and would like to put them on the XT6, but they're already mounted and wired....

price. I'm thinking $1500, assuming open rear diff, and XT6 wheels/front brakes (14" alloys with great BFG All-seasons).

It is not ready for delivery. there are some tinkery maintenance things that I had planned to take care of with the supercharger project. I'll instead put a lower-mileage stock motor in it, and take care of some of that stuff....the level of interest will effect the priority in which that all happens.....if nobody has claimed it by the time I get that stuff sorted out, it will probably wind up on ebay.

I will take a bunch of up-to-date pics when I get back from Gravity Park....

glad to hear there is some interest.

like I said, I got some work to do before it'll be sellable. haven't yet re-prioritized....

got a lot of projects on my plate right now, and was trying to gauge where to put it on the list.

once I do what needs to be done. it'll be a very reliable, fun-to-drive little car. not big power, but enough. and very nice handling.

took some more interesting pictures today

front edge of existing hood is rusted out. many holes. also a crease on the hood would make it almost impossible to repair. Also, lights:

    Rust on Driver's door:

    driver's side rear quarter rust:

    passenger's side:

roof (notice the 4 spots where the roof rack fairing touched last year). My spare hood looks pretty much exactly like this:

another angle on the crappy hood:

XT6 wheels with 205/60r14 BFG Traction T/As that will likely be included
    [IMG]

HVAC switch didn't work (it's vacuum operated, and I tried 3 different switches, and they all leaked). so I put a T fitting so it's always in heat/defrost mode, and a switch for on/off. with a known-good switch, it could easily be returned to stock.

engine bay. Note: Throttle body spacer NOT included. K&N cone filter is:

    battery tray:

the motor that will be in it (it will have a new clutch, timing belt, and water pump too):

front air dam bracket. a few of the plastic pieces broken off
    [IMG]

bracket completely pulled off the other side:

    still bolted to the fender:

    Bump!

I decided to keep the WRX wheels for the XT6 since one of my Rota 17s is cracked. I also decided to trade brakes with my dad ('94 Legacy GT). So, it'll have standard "L" brakes, with the XT6 14s on it.

also, I'll put the timing belt/water pump set that I bought for the new engine on there. So it'll be ready to go for many many many miles.

my 4Runner needs some attention soon, so the wagon probably won't be ready to sell until late July/early August, but I'm putting it out there anyway

I still get a kick out of that huge K&N Filter. ;-)

Someone should buy this! This car is supremely capable while being very unique at the same time. Also it sounds like a race car :)
