While digging up my septic tank in my back yard, i came upon a rather interesting bone. Here is a picture of it. Where do you guys think i could bring it to get identified? sorry the pics were taken with my camera phone
my septic system is being replaced... it wasnt found in the tank. it was found in the dirt where we were digging up the tank
do you have a dog? rawhide chew toy? if not, i usually bring rocks and bones from my fishing trips in montana to the science museum and theyll identify them for you, its either free of 5 bucks i cant remember
cant say a$$ in here anymore...that is a crazy bone though! maybe a horse or somthing? take a pic of it with somthing to give it some scale, to see how big it is
have a dog, but the bone is half the size of my jack russel, plus he doesnt dig in the yard, and the hole was about 5-6 feet deep. I will take a picture next to a ruler when i get home today. But just to guess, its about 10" long and about 4 inches around at the smallest point and 5-6 inches around at the largest point.
well, i called the science museum of MN and they said they can try to identify the bone, but i have to buy a exhibit pass so, i guess ill be waiting till i want to go look thru the museum
what if it belonged to a deceased person who died violently... what if by digging it up, you disturbed their peace, and now they're going to come get you in 7 days, like in a movie, except this isn't a scary movie, so you won't know the ending where the monster goes away back into your spetic tank and you're left in peace, only to find out she won't go away because she wants to be your jack russel terrier now. you better not have any TVs around...
lol they have a new cool exhibit too, its about all the gross things that go on inside animals and what have you, i cant remember the real name of the exhibit but its pretty cool lol
how much is a pass for the day? I'm doing something with my son this SAT so maybe we could all go and check it out? I'm always interested in neat stuff like this.
hehe, just give it back to tbone he siad he had a reward for it. thats really interesting, i doubt its a dino bone, but i wont rule it out. maybe it was that guy that used to be your neighbor?
My Dad knows alot about bones and he looked at it. He said that line down the middle of the bone is different from any other animal. He said it is probly from some type of deer.
yeah you might find the rest of your neighbor. a 7 inch bone is way too big for any small mammal. considering that there femurs are like 3 inches long. perhaps you found big foots toe?
if anyone is going to the science museum anytime soon let me know you can bring it in to check it out if you want. Or im taking bids on the bone now
