Last two days I've had virtually no brakes in my car until I pump them a bunch of times, at first the pedal is really firm, and I gotta push pretty hard to get the pedal to the floor, after that it loosens up and I have my full normal brakes again. I never remeber having this issue before, it's possible my car hasn't actually seen temps this low before, but still. Any ideas what is causing this? I was thinking maybe a little water in the brake fluid, within reason to expect this fluid to be the original brake fluid, I haven't changed it, yet.
Yeah, might be water or something. My car does something similar at times too, but only till I turn the car on. Off, it won't go down sometimes like something's sticking. I assume that's a little different than your problem. Brake fluid absorbs water, so you should change it once in a while. I'm not sure what the normal interval is though, 30,000 miles maybe? I think the owner's manual tells you. I'd normally change it when I get my anti-freeze done every few years.
We shut off our carwash at the dealership because the rotors and caliper would freeze in sec. by the time u get out of the dryer...Turns to Ice instantly
my bros rear brakes are frozen on his vw golf i noe because i touched his rear rotars and burnt my fingers.. hahahha
Mine have been doing it too! The last couple of weeks...car parked outside for the night and no brakes in the morning!! Had to e-brake at a stop sign because the pedal was so stiff and wouldn't depress...scary!:eek3: Don't no why, but would definitely appreciate the opinions also! Kthanx
one of the piston seals in your master cylinder could be ****ed up, in that case youd need a new master cylider.
I woul dgo with the fluid issue first... BF is hydroscopic fluid which means it absorbs water/moisture.... $40 I can flush the full system..... that will tell you if it is that or not... I havent had that issue yet but mine is parked inside overnight... although when I leave at night from the shop mine work fine too.... after 9hrs in the wind... (I flushed my fluid about 6mths ago)
Yeah sounds pretty common. I'd probably just have you do the flush, we'll see, I may step up to some stainless brake lines too. Not much of an issue since I pump the brakes a little and then they work fine.
makes you wonder if its real bad and it keeps doing it what damage it is doing to internal valves and hoses etc...
Yup....water in the BF. Typically happening in exposed areas down around the wheels. Thats why with a little pumping and the heat generated it quickly melts ice and brakes return to normal. Quick flush and bobs your uncle Although, these days, snip snip and bobs your aunty
do you do alot of short trips? enough moisture can get into the check valve thats in the vaccume line that goes from the intake manifold to the master cyl...this is pretty common lately, the valve gets stuck and the whole hose needs to get replaced...around 50 bucks
mine does it of late (this morning just blew through a stop sign at the end of my street) I think it's time to do something about mine...but it's cold outside and I don't wanna!
