Hello all, Need to sell my shortblock that was pulled from my 08 STI. The block at 53,000 miles and I discovered low compression on cylinder 4 before any sort of catastrophic failure. Cylinder 4 was at 70 psi while the other 3 cylinders held 140 psi. I wouldn't obviously recommend running this block as-is, but it is a great candidate for a rebuild. I took a quick look at the cylinder walls of #4, and the cross hatching is still there. I have not pulled apart the block to find the root cause, but as with most STI's, it is likely ringland failure. I don't plan on pulling it apart, but I can post pictures of the cylinder walls. The stock 08 STI oil pump is still on the block and can be included in the sale. FYI - 08+STI's have an 11mm oil pump, while 04-07 have a 10mm. Since there was no catastrophic failure and the oil pressure was still OK when the motor was pulled, my guess is that the oil pump is fine. A rebuild never hurts though. Let's start at $750 OBO
More pictures. The lighting is not the best, but you can see the cross hatching is still there. (all pics are rotated 90 degrees clockwise, sorry about that). Cyl. 4 cyl 4 at bottom of stroke cyl. 2 (top) cyl 3 Cyl 1 back side front Again, engine was running when pulled - no knocking, no smoke out of the tailpipe, oil pressure was at about 16 psi at warm idle, pick up pressure fine with revs, etc. But obviously I found the low compression on cylinder 4. The block will be full stripped down before the sale. I can include the stock oil pump and oil pan if interested.
The short block is stripped, boxed, and ready to go! Open to offers. Cash preferred, but PayPal if fine also. PM me to arrange delivery or more pics if seriously interested.
