alright, i have the oh so desirable scent of raw fuel in my cabin right now. its a fairly intermittent smell... mostly when i first start it up after about 12-24 hours of sitting. i just wasted about an hour of my life looking over and smelling all of the fuel lines and connections on the car. however, i can't seem to pinpoint where the scent is originating from. my thoughts first and formost, were fuel pump and seal, and as my car is wide open and stripped it would explain how i can easily smell it. but, my ears are open... i thought about the lines running under the intake manifold, however they were perfect last time i checked them and contemplated the fuel line mod. car is a 1998 Impreza Outback Sport Wagon with the 2.2l fyi. thanks for the ideas and help in advance. is it hard starting? unplug the vaccume line that connects to the FPR and smell it, when its cold it could be leaking....
not at all, starts and runs like a champ. only time i have had ANY hesitation or shuddering is when i have had to fill SA or Holiday gas.
If you need to replace the fuel filler hose, I would save your money and buy flexy radiator hose from fleet farm. cut the rusted part out and replace. It worked great on my 97 impreza L. cost a grand total of like 6 bucks.
I had one of the hoses that connects the fuel lines underneth the manifold leaking. I had to change it in ZERO degree temp during the winter. This was back when it was still the stock 2.2L NA. ...the WRX swap was a totally different story with more leaky hoses.
I get a strong gas smell in the cabin when driving. like today I went from 1/4 of a tank to less than a 1/8 of a tank in 10 miles. I could smell gas the whole time there, and have yet to find where it comes from. This is also not the first time ive had this happen.
well i did the simple little push test like Mike did on Nick's WRX and nothing, but i still should dig into it more
