does anyone know if garrett turbos are warrentied? A seal or something went out on my gt40088r , I have only had it for like three or four months and only used it for about 500 miles ! Last night though my oil light came on so I stoped and checked it out and all my oil went out the exhaust! Sucks

do you have an oil restrictor in it? it could be blowing past the seals, i had this problem initially on my 60 trim.

Ya, GT****R's need a restrictor on a Subaru. They really don't like 60+psi of direct oil pressure.

Sometimes, they like to come back to working life. Try the restrictor, then call in the morning.

Ball bearing garretts need a drop of oil about every other day to work. Its an exaggeration, but in comparison to a journal bearing turbo, its truf.

bb turbos don't really have seals from what i was told. i went threw a oil problem with mine and when i fixed the oil back up problem with a pump surge tank it went back to normal. so i would check to make sure that your drain line isent clogged and you have a -3 or smaller line going to your restrictor. i had a -4 line and the restictor did nothing. it still flowed so much oil.

its a pain in the ass to get the oil problem figured out on Subaru's. make sure to that the oil drain line has the straightest path back to the block or oil pan so it don't back up into the turbo.

I just dont get why all my oil would go straight out the exhaust! The back of my car is just coated! But I will have to take it apart and check every thing! You are right about the seals though from what I have seen on the garrett web site it doesnt look like they really have any!

same thing kind of happed to me but i shut my car off when white smoke came barreling out my exhaust. if your compressor wheel spins ****ty its possible that the oil is spitting past the bearings and out behind exhaust wheel. but i would think you would have a tone of bearing flakes in your oil pan. is your catch can full or not hooked up right? that can make oil go out your exhaust too.

my catch can vents to the atmosphere, and when the problem started I was on my way home from the bar ! It was very late at night and really cold so I didnt notice anything till the oil light came on! there is oil in the turbo on the cold side and sum under hte hood buy the turbo but most of it went out the exhaust! If it is spitting past the bearing would this be due to a bad bearing?

it sound to be that the oil is backing up in your turbo. if its coming out your compressor side too (same as me) your turbo should still be fine but just do what i said above for sure. check the drain lines and make sure the oil can get out of the turbo good and back in to the motor. and if your using a -4 or bigger oil feed line get a smaller one.. i run two restrictors. one right off the block and one on the turbo so one both sides of the oil line.

What pipe set are you using? What kind of angle does the turbo sit at? These are factors as well.

+1 on making sur the drain has no kinks, crazy beds, or anything of the sort. GT BB turbos have been known to work fine once the problem hass been corrected.

I have the perrin rotated mount kit, but i modified the downpipe so that my wastegate dumps to the atmosphere instead of recirculating back into the exhaust.

I took the turbo out checked all the line for any problems and everything apears to be ok! Then I checked my cylinder psi and that was good , so it must be the turbo. I am going to try some diferent restrictors and see if that will cure the problem! Does anyone know where sells the restrictors?

atp sells them. and then you can go to mas to get a smaller oil line if you need that.

non bb turbos have seals so if it leaks you usually need a rebuild
