I have a stock 05 Sti, I was wondering on a full tank of BP 92 octane gas I am getting on average of 18.33 miles per gallon, thats driving semi conservative, and 50% on the highway free of rush hour, and always in the highest gear possible(5th or 6th). I know the factory estimate is 18 city 24 Highway, I was wondering if this is normal or what everybody else is getting, the big reason I am asking is I am driving to Daytona Beach in 3 weeks and want to estimate my gas costs. also if I put in the lowest octane gas and then add octane boost is it the same thing. Its not plauseable on 1 tank, but If I buy in bulk for 3500 mile round trip i could save some money.

my buddies 04' sti gets about the same mileage as yours. I wouldn't recomend low octane gas, though. Whats the extra 10 cents a gallon gonna do? Thats maybe $10-$15 at the most. You'll be spending more for those octane boosters if you add them every tank. Shift at 2500 rpm and you'll be fine;)

when the weather gets better and the roads are clear your mileage should go up...Next week should be better...35-40 clear sunny...Also check your tire pressure, it is maybe time next week to add more air...I add about 4-5psi extra for spring and summer...around 35-36psi, winter aroudn 31-32psi

my 99 Legacy OB wagon gets me about 19mpg with 75% freeway with semi conservative. I would be jumping for jumping if I was driving an STi and getting 18.

I get about 23mpg hwy and roughly around 18city on my REx...I'm shifting around 2800-3000RPM

FYI- It's been known to get better Gas mileage when you flash the ECU ;)
    Cobb AP's
    Ecutek (that's what I have)
    Open ECu
    Utec
    etc....Of course properly tuned...

I think about fuel economy too. But that dang turbo keeps whispering, c'mon, spin me up, c'mon. And I'm such a nice guy I almost always oblige.

Your fuel economy is in line with mine. I'll keep an eye on the next girls gone wild video. (for your car, of course)

Just let off a bit on the Gas...I actually do not look at the MPH and RPMs as much...I look at my boost gauge...hehe I'm trying not to boost more than .5 bar, it's hard but it is a good challenge that I take myself...

At one point my best was 27 hwy...I was trying different Gas Brands...Holiday sucked, SA same, Shell,Amoco,BP got me the mileage, Texeco was so so...Some were 92 and some were 93 oct.

Funny how 92 shell was better than holiday 93...I did use the different gas a month at a time to see any significate difference between each other...At that time roughly 1000 miles a month...As you can see at that time I had time to spare and was driving my car daily...SA and holiday got me about 2MPG less...than the rest

I usually average 20mpg no matter whos fuel I use. I am stage 2 plus I have larger injectors and fuel pump. Right now I am a little lower than 20mpg but I have a front O2 that seems to be going out.

I'm getting 16-18mpg with a 13mi commute with a mix of city and highway driving (I only really get on the freeway for a mile or less though. I shift around 4000-4500 usually because thats how I like it, but it still seems like I really shouldn't be seeing mpgs that low (16). I've been meaning to do a reset but havent gotten around to it.

I don't get on it really (no wot), so is 16mg normal??

I guess 30 miles of my 40-45 mile commute is highway so big difference over yours.

LOL... at Orr I managed to get 8mpg and we tried to keep it below 4000-5000 but that is different.

Here's what I've been getting in the 07 STI for the past few fills with approx 1/2 of them being 92 octane non-oxygenated -- about 50/50 highway.

FWIW, I'd say throw down the extra buck or two per fill up to keep the highest octane in the tank you can.

    I get about 28-22mpg.

I don't know why, but mine fluctuates allot even when driving the same routes.

I'm a leadfoot and I seem to get about 16 to 18 in overall driving, not too bad as far as I'm concerned. It'd probably be a little better if i eased off a bit, but it just aint that important to me.

Yeah, my commute is around 11 miles. In the winter, I've been getting around 16-18 mpg, in the summer, 20-23.

'04 STi - I get about 17-18mpg around town, mostly city driving, but not rush hour. On the highway, it is rock solid...I get 24-25mpg whether it is going up to Lk Vermillion, out to Chicago, or even down to Jacksonville FL. I took it to FL when it was about 6weeks old and I got 24-24.5mpg whther at night, day, rain, A/C, or windows down. The worst mileage I got was 24mpg while cruising across I-10 from Jax to 'Bama (we averaged 90+).

Do not put cheap gas in! It will save you <$20 and may lead to bigger issues. Use cruise control as it will get you much better mileage than your own foot (I have tested that theory out myself)...

Good luck and don't fall asleep at the wheel! My buddy did that in my RS in the middle of TN and we ended up sideways in the center median at ~80! Fortunately, he pulled it back on the road with no major issue. :p

Remember, it is about load and airflow vs rpm. With that being said, you want to keep the boost down on the flat and level stuff, but merging onto a ramp it won't matter. If you go wot for 2 seconds, you will use alot less gas then 10psi for 30 secs. It is really a game with the boost/vac gauge. I have been as good as 31 in my 4eat wrx on a long cruise to chicago. As for the cuise control, if you are on flat stuff, you can't beat the cuise. if you are running through some big hills, you can beat the pedal. Good milage is all in the driver.

Your mileage is normal for our cars. AWD imposes a 10-15% mpg penalty. The low compression ratio of the engine required for use with our turbocharger (damn those A3s with FSI!)knocks off 10% versus a NA with a higher compression ratio. So we are losing at least 6 mpg cumulative compared to NA FWD/RWD cars.

It does somewhat bother be given that my old SHO got 29 mpg on the highway at seventy, and my car can't muster more than 23. :( But if you set the cruise at 65, your gas mileage will do up dramatically.

Oh, and as far as regular and octane booster:

Assuming 20 mpg for 15,000 miles annually, you will burn 750 gallons of gas. At a price difference of $.20 per gallon between regular and premium, well, if the extra $150 per year ($12/month, $3/week, $.42/day) is going to break the bank, well, buy a Geo.

I have a VF34, 565cc injectors, FMIC...and so on. I get 17-20mpg depending on how I drive. I keep track of it every time. I was surprised that the more mods I got that I only get a few less mpg. I used to get 18-22mpg stock.

My 2002 OB wagon Ltd is averaging about 24.7 w/ roughly 90K total miles.

My last tank on the 2005 9-2X Aero 5MT (and I have only 4 mo. of MT experience) was 21mpg, roughly, although the colder weather was a bit worse.

We have a 1990 Legacy auto that probably gets 25 average.

    I get 22 -24mpg with mostly city driving (06' WRX Stage 1).

I have a pretty healthy lead foot too. I usually skip gears when accelerating to the speed limit. I believe the faster acceleration allows for less time in the higher RPMs = less gasoline used

I don't know if that's true, but I prefer any line of thinking that views faster acceleration as a plus.

(I also shift to neutral alot to slow down before stopping. I think that helps)

    ^^

Reminds me of when I was working at a car dealership in high school. They'd send me out to pick up food in a Geo Prism (Corolla) and the needle would drop the entire time I drove it. The thing needed 6k to get out of its own way.
