If my car sits for a while(long stoplight) or while warming up, I get in and it smells like raw gas. Anyone else have problems like this. Any idea where to start looking. No puddles of gas under the car anywhere. checked the lines to the fuel filter. no leaks or signs of leaks. Any help would be appreciated.
have you checked the fuel pressure regulator? if its the same on the rex as any other ej ive looked at, it should be bolted to the back passenger side fuel injector. the fuel line runs thru it. and there is a small vaccume line connected to it. to test if the fuel pressure regulator is bad, just pop the vaccum line off of it while its running, and no gas should come out, if it does, time to get a new one.
One thing to keep in mind is that smells from your car such as gas especially are more prominent in when its cold. Especially if your car has been modded away from stock and not tuned you will notice this. I have no fuel leaks and can notice gas smells more when its cold out. Now if its giving you a head ache will in your car then thats too much gas and there is an issue of some sort. Good luck!
I have TBE.... and a stage two reflash... Never had the problem until like 2 weeks ago. I dont think putting an exhaust on my car would cause it to smell like gas.
Also, last year when it got colder I started to smell raw fuel. I took it to Clements and they said that the fuel lines got a little loose with the cold. Tightened them up and everything has been fine since.
np man, i hope thats all it is for ya, or somethin just as easy. ive had to do fpr's before and they can be *******s, but thank god somebody at fuji has a brain inside their skull, and made everything about the flat 4s easy. haha
either fuel lines, which was a recall on the bugeyes I believe..never got mien done cause it never gets too bad... also if you have no cats in your car it will smell... especially when the weather is bad/cold... the car is running richer during warm up etc etc so you get more of a gas smell...
The fuel rail update was only provided on certain VIN#'s for 02-03MY WRX's. When the update is done, you get a new under intake fuel rail (solid lines) and the 3 rubber lines that connect them under the intake. Then you have to re-tighten all the clamps, and re-install the intake. Fun stuff.
w3rd. Had this on my 02 WRX wagon. They had to go in and replace lines and/or connectors as part of a model-year-wide recall. Depending on the MY of your car you can probably drive into any dealer and get this fixed with no charge. It's found money for the dealership.
i was told that my 03 rex has the same problema and it is not a recall so i would have to pay for it... Is that right or should i go back in to them?
I would. I forget the term, maybe "Service Bulletin", but it was recall item. I had my 02 "fixed" the winter of 04/05 so I would say you got jobbed. My car was way past factory warranty at the time this issue was addressed.
yeah, it was a recall, my car went through that same problem with previous owner. So go and tell them to fix it.
So my question is... will they cover a "heavily modded car?" my drivetrain is far from factory and i have catless exhaust.... I just have a feeling that my local stealership is going to tell me to get lost.
They might. This was a problem very well known to them and if they try to say that its your own problem tell them that you always had this smell but just realized that it was not normal and it has nothing to do with mods you did to the car. However it might be that when you were doing some mods to your car you might have damaged the fuel system some how.
^^Nope, recall. Almost every single bugeye has had to have this done. And gl with the dealership and your mods. I don't know exactly how they would treat it, but I would think that they wouldn't want to touch it. Again, good luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Not a recall, so says Subaru, its a service bulletin. Subaru MTKA said that they won't touch it unless I pay. I'd go to Bloomington Acura Subaru...they seem to be more user friendly than say, Morries in Mtka. I can't think of how any "mod" would effect this issue. It's related to poor quality material that gets too rigid and/or contracts in colder temperatures. Speak softly to the service techs...they like it. huh, when I had it done, they said it was a recall b/c of the crappy lines that had been used. What does it cost if you have them do it? I say wait until your car turns into a hugh ball of flames and then sue their asses for faulty equipment. If mine wouldn't have been fixed, I probably would have had some major issues, ex: fire, maybe passing out from the damn fumes and crashing. It was unbearable...the gas smell in the cab that is.
I just called them, they said since its out of the warranty period...$150.00 to TIGHTEN the existing fuel lines, not replace. This is why I hate dealerships (no offense to anyone on here )and just prefer to do minor work like that on my own....
Yeah, if they tighten them, they probably will fail again. Need replacement part. Maybe get a quote on the part from 3rik and do the install? And mine WAS under warranty, now that I think about it.
haha the service techs there are about as unfriendly to modified cars as is humanly possible. I have heard too many storied about the attitude they have copped with people with modded cars there. They called my JDM STi swapped GC wrx "an abomination" at one point when I went in to get a $10 trunk spring. Their attitude in the tech dept can be snooty at best.
Its because most of the techs at bloomington prefer the acuras, zach your old car was one of the most amazing subies that drove the streets of mn.
If you end up replacing the fuel lines yourself. I replaced all the ones in my engine bay with some GoodYear fuel lines that had some sort of blue liner. They are supposed to resist expansion and contraction much better and I am sure the liner holds up better over the years to Ethanol in our gasoline. Wouldn't hurt if you ever wanted to switch to corn either. Its not that cheap, but its some nice fuel line for Checkers IMO.
So say the stealer ship doesnt cover me.... What do i need to do to fix it?? wher do i get the parts?
Well first off you want to make sure thats where its coming from. Then probably through the dealership is where you would get the kit. I can't imagine that would be too expensive, I think the expensive portion is the labor on this project.
