Hey guys, i always thought it would be a blast to get a bunch of guys together to go autocross a few times a month or somthing. I know there are some at the vally fair lot and stuff like that but i thought it would be fun to get a bunch of subie guys together and find an abandoned lot somewhere or if someone is willing to donate a lot for use. We could go out saturdays or somthin with a bunch of food and drinks and just have fun trying to beat eachothers times. I can get wholesale traffic cones by the hundreds for ultra cheap. just an idea but i thought it would be a ton of fun this summer. Any one interested/ have any ideas?

You make it sound so simple

Why not come out and run with the best AutoX club in the area ?

    http://forum.mnautox.com/forums/

The events are extremely well run, safe, good value, safe, fun, safe, highly entertaining and safe.

I'm going to try to make it to at least one autox event this summer. I know I won't have the time or money to really compete, but it's something I want to try...

    MAC Schedule

    Minnesota Autosports Club
    2007 Event Schedule

April 21-22 Novice school 1 (Dunwoody & Midway)
    May 5-6 MOWOG 1 & 2 (Valleyfair)
    June 3 MOWOG 3 (DCTC)
June 16-17 Novice School 2 (Dunwoody & Midway)
    July 1 MOWOG 4 (Midway)
July 8 Test & Tune (DCTC)
July 14-15 Evolution School (Midway) - tentative
    August 5 MOWOG 5 (Midway) - tentative
August 19 Test & Tune (DCTC)
    Sept 16 MOWOG 6 (DCTC)
    Oct 6-7 MOWOG 7 & 8 (DCTC)
    Oct 14 MOWOG 9 (Midway)

    Handy hints:
    1. Try and attend one of the Novice Schools. You will get a year's worth of seat time in one day, and you will be taught how to behave and contribute at events in order to aid their smooth running.
    2. Try to attend at least one Valley Fair event. The lot is huge, runs are in excess of 60secs, and there's lots of run off room in case you get it all horribly wrong.
    3. DCTC is a blast. With so many events there this year, you'd have to try really hard to not attend one.
    4. If you sign up on the MAC forum, my user name for the referral field is the same as it is here.

There are other clubs in the area that do this stuff fairly frequently, such as the Porsche Club, Corvette Club and BMW Club. There also many events over the border in Wisconsin and Iowa. Most of those events get posted up on the MAC forum to drum up a bit of extra interest.

Hush your mouth ! We don't use the 'R' word. It's a timed competition of precision driving.

You can register online, probably a month before the event. Keep an eye on the website for an annoucement.

Pre-registration for events is done online only through this site... http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmMain.Show. You can build a calendar of events on the site, and it will remind you about them via email. Registration normally opens 30 days before the event.

when it gets a bit closer to autocross season we will set up a thread where people can get more information about how to get involved etc. For now www.mnautox.com is a great resource to start learning.

The novice school is probably the best bang for the buck and some of the subaru club members are involved with that. There is MAC board member on here (shane86) and I am the chief of workers for the club, meaning I'm in charge of making sure everyone knows what's going on when they're working, what to do and not to do and that we have the right people in the right places.

Do a search on the MAC forum and you'll find plenty of info from last year's rally cross events.

MAC has a very gifted photographer, so if you want to see everyone in action, stroll on over here... http://www.superawesome.net/main.php.

There's also quite a good video from last year's Novice School I here... http://forum.mnautox.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4319&highlight=novice+school+video

It's around $50, iirc. Absolutely worth the $, you get way more runs than a typical event, plus the instructional value. You'll be a year ahead of where you would be if you just start showing up to events cold.

You won't kill your tires, but you will notice some extra wear. Get as much negative camber as possible dilaed in in the front beforehand, if you don't have it there already. Subarus really chew up the front outsides, more camber will help with that.

^ hard to say which will be busier; this is the first year they have announced two at the beginning of the season. Last year they added a second one after the first one filled up.

I say do the first one, that way you'll be ready for Valleyfair two weeks later. Probably the most fun site we have, and we only get it one weekend per season.

well, looking at my schedule, the Valley Fair event is the weekend before finals....so I don't think I'm going to make that. So maybe I'll plan on doing the June Novice School. that'll also give me a good month after school gets out to do some work on my car, maybe 5-lug (then I CAN adjust my front camber....).

dont worry too much about setting up your car, but camber will help with the tire wear. Its more of a learning to drive than learning the car type of thing.

I'd suggest anyone looking for a fun cheap day of motorsports that its probably the best bang for the buck available.

Sorry about the video. Looks like it's been pulled. If anyone wants to host it, I have a copy of it somewhere. It's about 100MB in size. For something he threw together in an evening, he did a pretty decent job of it. It's well worth seeing.

If I could figure out packaging stuff up with BitTorrent, I suppose I could push it out that way. Anyone have a cheat sheet for that kind of thing ?

If i already did the Novice school last year, will they let me do it again this year? I just want some practice with the new car...and a little more road time before i start entering in the actual events.

I went last year, too. I want to go again this year so I can learn the timing and scoring system. We seemed to be lacking enough people for that last year. And a bit of extra seat time never does any harm.

Hey Esper, you rode in my car last year at the 2nd Novice class...I had the white 93 Civic hatchback that went sideways quite a few times on the last horseshoe!

    I remember now.

Ahh sideways in an FWD car. never feels right. Its hard to get a lot of speed coming through there and not just hanging the rear end out fo your car is a little oversteery.

So, I want to get my dad to get into AutoXing next year, but he's got cold feet. Would the Novice School be a good time to drag him along, even if he doesn't register/drive?
