if your ever thinking about using it in car, don't buy one that is either DVD or Hard Drive Recording.

Neither of them can handle the rattles of being mounted to a car, and usually go into a panic shutdown to protect their mechanisims.

The quality of MiniDV and Digi8 still excelent, and i imagine there has to be some Tape based camcorder capable of recording HD.

    just some advise...

buy your electronics from an online site. bestbuy will be more expencive. my canon XTi kit only cost me 400 from an online retailer. when it was like 650-700 and even 800 at some walk in stores.

google the item and use one of those sites that find a retailer with the lowest price.

If I knew, I'd help ya...

My roommate is a fairly professional photographer, as it is his only source of income, and he swears by all things 'canon'

seems like that XTi is a solid bet for the money... for video...I am not too sure on all of that, but I would go HD or mini dv for the car. not the dvd ones as others have mentioned.

    Here
HEy 3van, i have a canon GL2 camera that i use for video. It used to be one of the top vid cameras. I havn't been doing that much video anymore so i dont really know where it is on the food chain now, but i know the quailty is still really good. But alot of things are going to HD but i think that is still outta range for most people. It shoots mini DV i swear that the quality when i watch from the camera looks as good as some TV shows with no editing or touching up. ive been VERY haapy with it. But just my .02 cents
