Actually, Yugos have quite a bit of potential as rally cars. As they durable, have a pretty reasonable aftermarket (they're basically FIATs). And most importantly, cheap as hell, so if you run one into a tree at 60mph, you can buy a new shell for $100. Also have seen some success in other racing, notibly autocross. These cars got thier bad rep mainly because as really, really cheap cars no one ever maintained them.
I had a friend Bojan when I was in school at Duluth. He actually worked at a Yugo factory with his dad. He said that they send all the bad ones here on purpose. hahaha
Thats basically true. Pre-1990 (post-90, some had EFI) Yugos had emissions carbs that basically sucked out loud. Like early-70s emissions carb sucking.
