It actaully looks like over tighting the lugs. If you look closely, all the studds are broken off.

I just dont get how all of them snapped off.

Overtightening wouldnt snap them off like that. The thing that would snap them is the lugs being loose, the wheel moving out on the studs and breaking them off (kind of like a lever action).

I'm going to guess wrong lug nuts too. Those first two turns would wrench the wheels out onto the lugs and the last one would sheer everything off.

Edit::Holy chit. I didnt realize EVERY wheel fell off. I thought it was 3/4 not ALL of them. Oh man thats so great. sucka!

    PWNED!

I think Jack is right though. The wrong thread pitch would make it seem that the lugs are tight (and not fall off) but not tighten down onto the wheel all the way. then while driving the wheel play will sheer the studs right off.

I have had lugs break off this way and when they go they all go. I lost 5/6 lug studs on a chevy suburban!

I wonder how they got the car off the ground again?

the car wasn't seriously damaged. all of the running components are pretty high and tight on the FD's so apparently from people who are there all he might be looking at is a frame check, a little body work and some new brakes.
