Headwaters I: The Nemadji Trail Headwaters is considerably different than in past years. It will be run in the Nemadji State Forest, near Hinckley, MN. It is a short, single-day event, with no overnight stay required. Registration will be Saturday morning, May 12, with the rally running until around 7 PM. Most workers will be able to drive up in the morning and drive home in the evening. Control workers will each run two starts and two finishes, while course marshals will each see 4 stages! Workers should register for Headwaters at http://www.marblesoft.com/rally/workers/index.php?register=27. The rally Web site is at http://www.scca-lol.org/rally/headwaters/. Anyone what to go?? I think the GF and myself are heading up for it. This would be a good rally to go check out since it is fairly close and doesn't require the commitment that Bemidji does. let me know. Russ
I'll be there for sure. Black bugeye wagon w/ red club stickers and a big antenna (assuming I go get a replacement mount in the next week). If you're going to come, please register to work. I don't know of any spectator points at this rally at all so the only way to see the action will be to work the course. All the spectator info is from last year. Working isn't exactly tough, stage marshals just hang out at crossroads and make sure that nobody drives out onto a "hot" stage. Start & Finish require a bit more, but are extremely simple.
bemiji forest rally, around bemiji area. Last year there were some pros, biggest being pastrana and bloch I believe. I heard that it isn't a rally america event this year though so I can't confirm that there will be pros this year
Huh? It's absolutely a Rally-America event, and part of the national championship. You can count on Pastrana & Block to be there for certain. http://www.rally-america.com/event.OFPR.2007.php Headwaters is also a Rally-America event, but it is a regional, not a national.
being a stage marshal is the way to go if you want to spectate. it really dosnt take that much work at all.
Yep, I think when I was marshalling ofpr last year I snapped off something like 350-400 pics. That was about all we did (and drive about 5 stages). If you have never worked or have been to a rally, this would be a good place to get started. It is fairly close to the cities and it is only a 1 day event. I am planning on just driving up in the morning and driving home after the event. Hopefully we can get a couple of other people from the group to go. Russ
ARG!! i would love to go i really wanna try the whole stage marshal thing. alas i have my chem 1021 final on the 12th.
My wife and I were planning on marshalling, but I got stuck working the real job on Saturday so we never registered. I find out today, that it turns out I may only have to work for about an hour, early in the morning. If I'm done early enough, and we show up at registration, do you think they'll still be able to put us to work?!
"Registration" is open until 1pm, doesn't specify worker or competitor though. The short answer is yes, you can still work the event, someone will have something for you to do. However, the Marshals need to be out in place before the competitors start by a fairly long period of time, so if you want to marshal, you'll want to get registered as early as possible. First car out is at 2pm, so it'd probably be a good idea to be there noon or before.
Mayhem Rally Recap Hi All, First off, a huge thank you to all the organizers and workers. We had a blast. I said at the awards and I’ll say it again, I would be interested in running this rally or type of rally half a dozen times a year. Great road, short travel time and no overnight stay, awesome. Our specific story starts with us leaving the house a couple minutes after 9:00 am Saturday. The drive up was nice but we took the first highway 23 east exit (I should have known better). We got to Kerrick, unloaded and went to registration. To say things went smoothly is an understatement. We were registered and teched by 11:20. We discovered the rally computer has no power so we will be running by seat of our pants. We pull up to the start line and Al Kintigh is working there with two rookies (I think). Rob warns them about gravel spray when we leave. I got em anyway. Rob is doing a good job estimating mileage to make the calls but I am just driving what I see. We get to a multiple apex 3rd gear 180 left (over about 350 yards) and I get lucky and set the car in the best loooooong slide I have ever done in the Mustang. I just clip each apex with constant throttle and small steering inputs. Unfortunately, when we get to the end of the stage, the timing is messed up. Ultimately the first stage is not scored. This is a turnaround stage so I borrow some tools and supplies and steal power from the ham radio to get the odo working (thanks Bruce and Erik). The rest of our rally was uneventful. Just fun driving on a great road. Post rally festivities ensued. We took the overall win and had a great time. Plus, we were home with the car and truck in the garage by 10:10 pm. Great event. For those of you that weren’t there, please consider how much fun you missed and attend the next one. Mark Utecht PS.
