Ok so i remember someone saying something about the heat of the downpipe wearing down on the boot on the passenger side of the car. there was a post about the driver's side being fine but the passenger side being totally worn down from the heat.... is it worth it for me to heat wrap my downpipe before i install it? I just bought and will be picking up from FEDex tomorrow, a TurboXS stealthback system to hook up to my SPT exhaust. Is there any benefit to doing this for performance as well? Thoughts? Opinions? I am not sure if it is worth it to do.... but if i am going to do it I have about a week to get it done.
I never wrapped mine when it was a street car - no burnt boot. It is wrapped on the current dp. You probably won't notice one way or the other. I probably wouldn't bother. but if you do, make sure to spray it with DEI's or VHT's silica spray (both prior to wrapping and after)
I would only wrap the DP if it is a melting hazard. Otherwise, the faster you can expend post turbo energy, the better.
very true, we only wrapped the portion that's directly in the engine bay to help reduce under hood temps
